Music has always been a core part of who Cheryl James is. As a matter of fact, she cannot remember if there was ever a time that she did not love to dance or sing. As it pertains to Cheryl, one could actually say that if God is the heart and the vital center that controls our being and pumps blood through the body, then Gospel music is an important vein that conveys the message from the control center.

Cheryl James was saved at a young age at the West End Church of God of Prophecy. As she grew older, her passion and love for music only intensified. Over the years, Cheryl was involved with a variety of choirs and chorals throughout the city of Toronto. She has participated faithfully as a member of the Voices of Praise, Youth Outreach Mass Choir (Y.O.M.C.) and Faith Chorale. For many years, Cheryl James served in the alto section of the Faith Outreach Choir where she was not just a member but eventually became the director of the outstanding choir. In 2001, Cheryl began to feel the Lord urging and pulling her into unfamiliar territory and eventually she had to step out in faith and follow the Lord’s leading.

Currently, Cheryl James attends Rhema Christian Ministries where Pastor Orim M. Meikle is the senior and founding pastor where finding and operating within your vocation in God is fervently enforced. With this constant prompt, Cheryl could no longer deny nor hide from her inevitable calling and a different vision. The actual manifestation of her vision began in 2002 which is when the evolution of the “Voices of Worship” (also known as VOW) took place.

Since then, this power packed group has ministered, blessed and astonished congregations both within Canada and the United States. Some exciting ministerial moments have occurred when the choir was given the opportunity to share the stage with Ricky Dillard and New G, Youthful Praise, Take 6, Monique Walker, Fred Hammond, Timothy Wright, Tudar Bismark, Grace Thrillers, Stitchie, Papa San, and Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers.

Voices of Worship is a choir which consists of approximately 15 dynamic and energized young people who love the Lord. This ministry is not merely a ministry of vocalists yet they have been gifted with preachers, dancers, designers and song writers. As a matter of fact, many of the songs that they minister will not be heard anywhere else as they are mostly written by their own members or musicians. Corporately as a group the choir realizes and acknowledges that the people of God are called to operate in different capacities within the “Kingdom”, and even though the roles may differ, collectively they help to achieve one common goal which is to spread the Word of Jesus Christ throughout the Nation. According to Cheryl, V.O.W. is seen as a ministry where these individual gifts and callings may be cultivated.

On March 1st, 2008 Cheryl James & V.O.W. will be celebrating their long awaited debut CD release, simply self titled “Cheryl James & Voices of Worship Live”. This awesome, anointed body of work was produced by the incomparable Melvin Crispell (known for hits from Hezekiah Walker, James Hall, and Juanita Bynum), under his production/record company Potbelly Music. This CD has been graced with the presence of lead vocalist such as Tunesha Crispell, Stazee Bernette, Pastor Richard Brown, Pastor Orim Meikle, Peter Moncrieffe and Melaine Rochford. Together with Roderick Hutcherson, President of their management company Source of Synergy, Inc, Cheryl James and Potbelly Music are excited about the opportunity to introduce this amazing group and their message of the finished work of Christ to the world.

It is the desire of Cheryl James to “work while it is day” for she realizes that the “harvest is plentiful and the laborers are few.” As she constantly declares, “Now is the time to operate in your calling, and that is what I’m doing. There are souls out there that need to be rescued and I’m going to make sure that I work hard to help save souls.” Presented to you today is Cheryl James, a fellow laborer in the vineyard of Christ who is determined to the reach the lost through the too often underestimated power of Gospel music.
