The Union High School Renegade Regiment has a long history of musical excellence. Thanks to the leadership of retired director L. Dale Barnett and the dedication of band members throughout the years, a long standing legacy has been created. The band has been a Bands of America Grand National Finalist six times, a Bands of America Regional finalist for twenty-three consecutive years, and an Oklahoma Bandmasters Association state marching band champion 12 times. Their 1994 show entitled "Batman" recieved the highest score to date in OBA history and has been said that it was "the greatest show to never make finals" at Grand Nationals. In 2000 the RR broke new barriers in show design with the debut of "Distorted Reality," a program well known in the marching band community. With electrifying sounds and mind-blowing drill the band placed first in the BOA St. Louis regional capturing the Outstanding Visual and General Effect captions, took the OBA state championship, and placed tenth overall in the BOA Grand National finals. In 2001 the RR captured third place at BOA St. Louis and took OBA state once again reaching the climax of the past 18 years. In the spring of 2005 "Mr. B" announced his retirement. His dedication to the program over the years, and his innovation and spirit will forever be a part of the rich tradition of the Renegade Regiment. To this day, the spirit of Renegade Regiment still rolls on as each class continues to walk through the band hall and will continue for years to come.
