About Me

Born and raised in New York, Robin Small began studying classical piano at the age of 6. Her mother, a pianist herself, saw that she had musical ability, so she began teaching the piano to her at the age of 5. Soon thereafter, she enrolled her into a private instruction. Her love for music and the natural ability to hear by ear was a blessing. Everyday she would listen for hours to many different styles of music. She would sing and play the piano. Singing was also a musical talent she realized she had at a young age. I enjoyed singing just about everything she could get her ears on, as well as, creating songs. Soon thereafter, she started vocal instruction.Robin continued her studies of both instruments at the Bronx House School of Music, The Manhattan School of Music, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and the Arts, and the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. While honing her craft on both instruments it lead Robin into a variety of musical experiences. She has had the opportunity to perform and record live with various celebrity artists. She has also recorded jingles for radio and television, session work, musical theatre, corporate gigs, and industrials, just to name a few.In addition to those musical experiences God has blessed her with the ability to teach. She started giving piano while in high school and after college, both piano and voice on the college and elementary level privately.Throughout her musical life Robin has worked professionally with Earth, Wind, and fire, Harry Belafonte, the legendary Gregory Hines, Cassandra Wilson (Jazz Artist), Maria Muldar (Blues Artist), Chris Jasper of Isley Jasper Isley, Eric Gadd, Iyanla Vanzant, featured vocalist with jazz pianist Rodney Kendricks, rap legend Rakim, Bobby Jones and New Life, Lynette Hawkins, Sounds of Blackness, featured vocalist with the Queens Symphony Orchestra, and a featured vocalist as an opening act for Bebe Winans. Robin also co-wrote and performed the song I Surrender with producer extraordinaire Gil Small which is featured on the soundtrack to the documentary film 25 Strong in 2005. Robin also co-wrote and performed Carry On with Gil Small and artist Monet Dunham from the Natural Organic Soul Collection compilation.Robin is a true pioneer to the art of music. Through her rich exposure to art, music, and life in, one cant help but feel the passion, intensity, and depth of her music. You will feel the spiritual depth from her church singing background, musical training, her relationship with God, and the soulful sophistication of a well rounded person whose life experiences have enriched her artistic expression and creativity.
