Rony McLendon

Laurone"Rony"McLendon was born into a family of incredibly gifted singers and musicians in a city that had its' own signature sound in popular music culture.... The "Philly-Soul" Sound! At a very young age Rony, along with his brother and first cousins, Cordell and Micheal Byrd, would imitate other singers and perform their renditions for their families, or anyone who would listen. Though they were only singing for fun, anyone who heard them found it to be quite amazing that nine and eleven year olds were not just singing with the finesse and aplomb of most seasoned vocalists, but also arranging their own harmonies. Shortly thereafter, Rony and his brother Tony became the only kids on their churchs' "Adults only" choir and various other choirs in and around their hometown of Philadelphia, as well as singing and playing musical instruments in their familys' gospel group "The McLendon Family"(myspace.com/mclendonfamily). It was with his family that he got his first experience in a recording studio, and it was love at first sight...... and sound. Years later, Ronys' family relocated to Georgia were,later, he became a highly sought after soloist singing at weddings, church services, and various social functions throughout the state. Since that time, Rony has used his unique gift, style, and ability in the studio, and in live performances backing some of todays and yesterdays most exciting artists, but none more exiting than when he and his family won the 1993 MCDONALDS GOSPELFEST at the world famous Carnegie Hall in NY,NY. Now working on his first solo project, Rony is being featured on the long awaited, and highly anticipated Groove City Productions release, "Gil Small The Maestro at Work" Vol. 1 (myspace.com/groovecityproductions).
