Four musicians came together in the spring of 2004 to build a band that would later usher in a new musical era, with their vision of a unique formula of aggression, melody, showmanship, and professionalism. This formula would propel the unit known as Thirty Ought six from obscurity, to a well respected fixture in Central Ohio and in the Virtual world.
With the release of their first independent self-titled EP produced by Joe Viers (John Schwab Recording), it was clear that the proverbial bar was set. From that point on, the band hit the ground running, diligently working to raise it ever higher. Rewarded with immediate local success, the band took their energetic presence regionally to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Illinois, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. Their fan base was widening through their live performances, and taking off over the Internet with the launch of their new website and Myspace.
With the exclusive Myspace release of another 4-song demo in the fall of 2005, it was clear to their listeners that the band had truly found its sound. In a few months time, they had increased their friend base from a few hundred to over twelve thousand, with an apparent draw to the 12 to 25 year age group. They also produced and directed their own full-length DVD movie, complete with theatrical videos, live footage, and homage to the local music scene. This was a pinnacle in their career, as it proved to the skeptics that Thirty Ought Six was here to stay.
Thirty Ought’s Internet notoriety propelled many opportunities, the first of which was Guitarist Derrick Zajacs endorsement with Godin guitars. They were also chosen as one of the top 20 bands on myspace out of 53,000, to take part in the Scarface videogame sound track contest. Their high profile grew as a result and was picked to be on several Compilation CDs, including releases by Mix Net, Wind and Rain, Cringe, and Strength in Numbers. They also inspired write-ups in the OSU newspaper, U Weekly and more recently featured on the cover of Columbus new arts magazine Homegrown Hero. They are not immune to Internet press either, with various pod casts on the Columbus Dispatch, video play on Comcast cable, and airplay on countless Internet radio shows. They continue to draw radio support from their home town radio station 99.7 the Blitz, and have been featured numerous times on their spot-light show Local Stuff with Hannibal as well as "choose it or loose it" which puts bands up against other bands in regular rotation, where listeners call in and vote. Thirty Ought Six dominated beating: Korn, Incubus, Breaking Ben, Buck Cherry, Papa Roach, Sevendust, Stone Sour and more. The band also advanced to the FINALS in the Zippo Hot Tour national contest. Which placed the band again in the top 10 unsigned bands in the country. They have recently finished and will be releasing their new album titled “Amazing Attractions For Rebellion†on Tuesday May 22nd 2007, with their Album Release Party following that date on May 26th. They have also been selected by MTV2 to appear on their new show called “Band On The Riseâ€, which will feature a sit down interview with the band and Thirty Ought Six’s music video of “Adiosâ€, which will air sometime this summer.
