About Me

IF YOU DO NOT SEND ME A MESSAGE WITH YOUR FRIEND REQUEST, YOU WILL NOT BE ADDED! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
My name is Michael C. Bevis Jr., and I am a writer, musician, and visual artist from New Orleans, La. I have moved away from home a few times to live in places such as Pensacola, Florida and Denver, Colorado. I currently reside in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans.
I have been an illustrator for over 20 years, doing mostly underground comix and illustration. I did a stint at a local college for graphic art, but I mostly taught myself how to draw in my teenage years. I have done album covers, website design, photography and photo manipulation, tattoo flash, flyers for local bands and businesses--you get the idea. Please visit the galleries of my works in my pics section; more is soon to follow.
My writing pursuits are varied, as I write in as many formats as I possibly can. I am mostly self-taught and at times I will post early drafts of a piece before it is finished so that I can get critique on the craft, and welcome any comments whether good or ill. I write for a local magazine called PARANOIZE, which is the only publication in NOLA that covers the regional underground music scene. Please visit the link below to get a better idea of just how wide and storied our music scene is, and make sure to buy some copies from the site.
I am now releasing my first published work, titled "and God Looked Away." It is a storm journal, written in the days before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina. As many of my regular readers will know, it has undergone many changes, edits, and revisions. But this is the Official copy, replete with a new introduction, and a small selection of photographs. I am now accepting pre-orders for the book, and there is a special bonus for anyone that decides to oder a copy in this manner. I will personally number, sign, and inscribe your copy if you utilize the little PayPal button below. Please be aware: THIS IS A PRE-ORDER! The book is in the final stages of formatting, and may take a month or so to be delivered. But, this helps the cause, and assures you of a personalized copy hot from the presses . . . or laser printer, whatever they use these days.
WE ACCEPT ALL FORMS OF CREDIT CARD PAYMENT - NOT JUST PAYPAL ACCOUNTS.
One discipline that I have pursued since I was a teenager is music. I started out as a vocalist for a little hardcore punk band called KINDERGARTEN CORRUPTION, which only lasted a few years, but we did some fun shows and had a really good time being loud punks. Afterwards in the 90’s, I started an industrial/noise band called GIMP with my sadly departed friend Robert McColley, who passed on in 2003. We existed in some form or fashion the entire time, only hanging it up when Robert left us.
Since then I have been at the controls for my “solo” down tempo/noise project STAR of KAOS. This is my baby, and although it is primarily mine, many wonderful and talented people help me to flesh out the songs in various capacities. I have released a six song e.p., titled “Amnesia Pharmaceutica”, and am working on releasing a full-length album of 13 songs on November 23rd, 2007, titled "Making the Robot Scream."
I also participate in a local noise collaborative, aptly titled "The Noisician Coalition" aka the NOISE PARADE. I was asked by their mastermind, Matt Vaughn to add to the insanity, and am honored to work with such a diverse spectrum of noise-minded freaks. We march annually, and will be playing all three days of this years VOODOO FEST in City Park. Use the banner to access the site.
As if all of this wasn't enough creative stimulation, I am also in a traditional, organic rock band called THRONE OF ANGER. We're traditional NOLA Underground hardcore/heavy, although we like to rock the fuck out as well. So far it's just myself and two other dear old friends that I have known since the halcyon days of real, honest-to-goodness Hardcore Punk music. We're having fun being pissed again, and are currently auditioning for a rhythm section. Please use the banner to let us know if you are interested in auditioning, or are just curious about our band.
I am a huge fan of conspiracy literature, especially the U.F.O./alien variety. Sometimes I even make my own up when I’m bored, to prove the point that anything can be a conspiracy if you want it to badly enough. Now I don’t necessarily believe in these theories either, as most don’t fit the actual definition of the word. But, I do love a good mystery, and honestly, life would be much more interesting if some of the more harmless ones were true. I’m mainly interested with the nature of belief, and why people need to believe something bigger than them is running the show, when most of the time it turns out to be red herrings for everyone. A good way to test your particular views on these topics is to head on over to my APOCALYPSE CULTURE! poll that I have been running for over 6 years now. It only takes a few minutes, is a good bit of fun, and helps me with my research.
Thanks for checking out my profile, and please feel free to leave or send any comments or messages that you might think are pertinent.

This is for the city that care forgot . . . The city that forgot to care. This city, carelessly forgotten; our party times behind us now, it seems. A city of ghosts, both real and imagined, all night...
