About Me

Rebeca Vallejo Project transcends such conventional labels as Jazz, Latin, World or Funk. Rebeca Vallejo Projects self-titled debut album is the product of an ever-evolving sound, relentless in its pursuit of creative nirvana. The Rebeca Vallejo Project was founded in New York in 2002, on an attempt to marry Latin Jazz with elements of Funk, Soul, and Disco, among others. Featuring five original compositions and a Spanish version of Ashford and Simpsons California Soul (turned into NYC Soul), this projects debut album has an eclectic sound concept that reflects Rebeca Vallejos urban experience. Drawing upon Rebeca lifetime traveling experiences (Spain, Great Britain, Belgium, Cuba, USA), she has used this culturally diverse backdrop as inspiration for much of her music. Rebeca Vallejos repertoire is performed in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

My Interests

Music:

Influences: I grew up listening to my grandfather singing flamenco, tangos and boleros while chopping wood in our backdoor "patio". Latter on, at the age of 12, my "hippy" aunt turn me into The Police, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles; at age 14, I discovered Depeche Mode and it change my musical life completely but... by the time I turned 16 and I discovered Nirvana, my musical perception radically changed again! Age 22, someone gave me an Ella Fitzgerald CD and I was hooked to jazz. In the year 2000 I accidentally stumbled into Brazilian music and that became forever-love. I believe in projected and charismatic vocals: Dave Gahan, Elis Regina, Edie Vedder, Ella Fitzgerald, Sting, Nancy Wilson, Mike Patton, Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, N'Dea Davenport, Jacques Brel, and, of course, Camaron de la Isla...among others.
