SHOWMAN & The THUNDEROUS STACCATOS (95-96) is a cult instrobadasssurfdragsterhotrod band ( 3 guitars/2 drums/bass) , SHOWMAN was Guitarman Yvan Serrano, whom is now one of the suavest Dj in London (Healer Selecta) and the main man of hippest London's independent music institution "RAison D'Etre". THE THUNDEROUS STACCATOS: were Pierre Longechaud (guit), Pierre Bushman (Guit) , Laurent Cadet (Drum), Nico Tricard (Bass), Mac (Drums) and Fred (Guit)...... In the US, Mike Lucas "Le Grand Phantom Surfer" From REPENT records empire from San Francisco, (the label who put the first ever single of Japanese girl band the 5678's 10 years before film maker, Quentin Tarentino), REPENT waxed an ultra rare wild 45's EP of Showman from a savage rough recording taken from a rehersal tape . Then John Peel (RIP) in England played the record on Radio 1. Few months later, UK 's surfmusic label, Alopecia records was very enthousiast about getting the "band" in studio, and Meanfiddler & Frat Shack promoters to bring the band over London.
Yvan was playing with 4 amps connected all together, 1x Dual Fender Showman, 1x Twin reverb, 1 Musicman 212, 1x Vox Ac 30 plus Reverb tank unit, Grescth Roundup and Telecaster, did you say LOUD & THUNDEROUS ????.
The album has been recorded in 95 at the tiny original Toe Rag studio (French Place Shoreditch London). The full session was done in less then 3 hours in hot July. Due the large numbers of musicians, Liam Watson, engineer & producer recorded all live, 1 take, 2 tracks with 2 vintage walves microphones from the 50's: LO FI ??? Did you say LO FI ?? Well this is where the WHITE STRIPES recorded their golden album 10 years later.
Showman was a kind of spontaneous energy between friends who love badass wild rock n roll Surf Music, Fender reverb unit and fuckin' loud guitar sound! "Yvan was mainly wrinting the song and we tried to play them basicaly" Nico ( Bass).
Really, it was not a real band, it was just for fun, we were really surprise at the time, that everybody dig our shit ! and go wild for it !On the same day of the recording, Showman was opening for Pulp Fiction Soundtrack 's hero and Surf guitar legend DICK DALE " Mirsalou" at the Forum in London !

JOHN PEEL PLAY LIST"On this evening show, Showman & The Thunderous Staccatos from Limoges France, on Repent records San Francisco.
They first 7" on US label, probably recorded on a walkman or ghetto blaster.
It sound great, a thundering trashfest of drums and wild loud guitars strings, drowned out in places by drag race soundtracks in some of the shabbiest etiditing you 've ever heard. Officialy the kings of Lo-Fi Dragster music, the loudest surf band on earth !!!
Funny that on the same program John played the first 5678's , Dj Shadow on Mo-Wax, and Dick Dale Pulp fiction, Showman was invited to open for PULP FICTION 's hero Dick Dale at the Forum few month later...

I first heard this on vinyl. The recording is crude enough, but the vinyl had much of what was there. I though it sucked really bad. Having now heard it on CD, some of the performances energy and the details of the playing come out. I have come to realize that this is probably one mother of a band. I'd really like to get them into a decent recording environment. I suspect they would totally rule the earth, nit unlike the Surf Coasters.
