The first day of the Festival will feature a bus tour at 9.00am that will show off McComb’s historic sites and attractions, including BO DIDDLEY’s childhood home and the renovated State Theater, as well as newer facilities such as the McComb Sports Park and the McComb Tiger Activity Complex. The Blues Marker unveiling will follow the tour. Tickets for the bus tour are $15 and limited to the first 50 people. The cost also includes reserved seating for the Blues Marker unveiling and brunch following the ceremony. Call 684-8664 for info. The public is invited to the ceremony, which is free. The City of McComb will also present BO DIDDLEY with a proclamation and City officials are asking the State Senate and House of Representatives to introduce a similar measure. Mayor Zachary Patterson has declared the upcoming event a grand opportunity to showcase McComb and southwest Mississippi as well as celebrate the life and time of BO DIDDLEY. After that, live music will begin at the Depot Pavilion at 12.30pm, although BO DIDDLEY is not expected to perform. Local artist Pat Legg has also donated an acrylic painting of BO DIDDLEY to the City and prints of the portrait will be sold during the Festival. The Festival also coincides with McComb High School’s Homecoming. The Homecoming Parade will be kicking off at 4.00pm, with BO DIDDLEY this year’s Grand Marshal riding in a convertible from Legacy Ford in McComb. The McComb High and Junior High bands will be joined in the parade by the Hazlehurst High School and South Pike High School bands in playing a selection of BO DIDDLEY’s songs. The McComb High School Homecoming Game in the evening will be followed by a free "Singing The Blues" concert at the Railroad Depot Pavilion, beginning at 9.00pm. On Saturday November 3rd 2007, the Festival continues at the walking track areas at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. The Mississippi Blues Trail, created by the Mississippi Blues Commission, is a project to place blues interpretive markers at the most notable historical sites related to the growth of the blues throughout the State of Mississippi. These tributes are the latest paid to BO DIDDLEY by McComb and the State of Mississippi. Earlier in 2007, he received the Mississippi Governor’s Award of Excellence In The Arts for Lifetime Achievement; the State’s highest arts honor. In 2000, he was inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame and in 1988, presented with the key to McComb and commendations from the McComb Board of Selectmen and the Pike County Board of Supervisors during a Pike County Arts Council concert held in Magnolia. One of the founding fathers of rock & roll, BO DIDDLEY celebrates his 79th birthday on Sunday December 30th 2007 and we encourage all his many fans around the world to sign this BO DIDDLEY-The Originator website Guestbook with their birthday greetings and messages.
