Harrowing - Blackened Death Metal

About Me

From the vile musical wasteland of Lafayette, Louisiana, the next incarnation of melodic blackened death metal has risen. After the disbanding of the power-thrash entity known as XeveX, guitarist Josh Tabor and longtime friend Travis Nicko joined forces in the hope of reanimating the stagnant Louisiana metal scene. Drawing influence from such U.S. acts as Hate Eternal, Suffocation, and Death, as well as European gods Emperor, God Dethroned, and Dissection, the two began crafting songs which, while undeniably fast and brutal, had a unique melodic complexity all their own. In their far reaching search for bandmates who shared their creative vision, Travis and Josh came to meet drummer Ben McKenzie, who had recently parted ways with Sabbatic Feast upon their return from the Bloodletting 2 tour with Monstrosity and Deeds of Flesh. The trio bore the title HARROWING, giving a name to the madness which they had set free. Upon aquiring ex-XeveX bassist Jeremy Lege and completing the instrumental section, the group began the search for a vocalist who was capable of adding further dynamics to their arrangments. After months of searching, the man for the job would turn up right under their noses in the guise of artist/writer/vocalist James "Hal" Moore III, And with this final fragment set into place, a maelstrom of chaos was born.... Unfortunately after 2 years, guitarist Travis Nicko left the band, but still remains a loyal fan..... Upon aquiring ex-Despondency guitarist Marcus McGahhey, Harrowing resumed writing and playing live. In March of 2005 the band crafted their first recording, a 4-song demo aptly entitled "Crumbled in the Wake". With determination and a rapidly growing fanbase the band continued to perform, and slowly began to expand their conquest. However, this success was shortly lived as drummer Ben McKenzie and bassist Jeremy Lege parted ways with the band. Overwhelmed by tribulation Harrowing slowly commenced it's descent into obscurity. Then, after nearly a year and a half of inactivity, the band's dark age came to an end. For it was at this time that long-time bass player and friend of Harrowing Stephen Anson (God Forsaken) was inducted into the band. Invigorated by this prosperity the group embarked on an intensive search for a percussionist. Then in September 2006 the band was contacted by drummer James Sharp (The Burning Issue) and after seemingly endless anticipation the band's search finally came to an end. With newfound tenacity the renovated Harrowing have since returned to the stage and are currently working on their debut full-length album, "Estranged through Abstractions".
