DANCING- Doing it, watching it, writing about it and making everyone else do it. I love Martha Graham, Akram Khan, Vincent Koko Sekweto Mantsoe, Jonzi D, Anna Theresa De Keersmaker, Rosemary Lee, Cloudgate Dance Theatre, DV8, Alvin Ailey, Union, Lea Anderson, George Piper Dances, Zoo Nation (esp. the youth), The Trocks, Wayne MacGregor, Josephine Baker, Sylvie Guillem, Carlos Acosta, Germaine Acogny, Trisha Brown, Twyla Tharpe, Michael Clarke, Francis Angol, BIRDGANG, and of course Laurie Booth, not to mention the Hello Sailorettes from Divine Company! Bet you want to be a dancer too now huh?! Or just go and make babies...I don't want to sound 2D so I also like cooking for appreciative people especially brunch, going on holiday - note not travelling - HOLIDAY, I love Yinka Shonibare (he created the image on my page) Chris Ofili, the French conceptual artist Sophie Calle & sculptor Barbara Hepworth (I realise I sound like a nob), walking down Church Street with a chocolate brioche, sitting in my garden in the sun, making people mix CDs, long walks especially around London at night, trees, home 'improvements', going out to eat waaay more than I should, overly large jewelery, jollof rice, suya & dodo, dresses, having a good rant, goosberries & rhubarb, sitting in the sea, sexy kicks (Adidas mids like Concords & Forums, Jordan 3s, 4s, 5s and 11s, especially the 4s in white/carolina/navy pvc, anything hot & ghetto with some pvc), reading, choreographing, Jasmine, roses, wysteria & hibiscus, boys who are usually too old & dysfunctional and pretty much only have their footwear game sorted, digging through old photos, neologising, seeing amazing art & theatre, roast potatoes, making a mess, partying, tea & cake with the girls, game especially venison - yes I'm evil I ate Bambie's mum, reading to people, wishing less people took my rants about cut flowers so seriously, gold things especially my dresses and sofa, and reading the paper (well, the magazines & the review then not getting round to the rest of it).
I'd love to meet Marvin Gaye, (mum beat me to it, damn her), Brother Malcom, Martin Luther King, Fela Kuti, Ken Saro Wiwa, Jospehine Baker and Martha Graham but they're all a bit dead...not sure it's going to happen (or hopefully not too soon anyway)....and of course who doesn't want to meet...WHO I DON'T WANT TO MEET Yet more wastemen
The song in the video above (Marvin Gaye "I want you") is my favourite of all time. ...I wouldn't say I'm in to hip hop because apparently you're not allowed unless you know Madlib's dad's inside leg measurement and what Doug E. Fresh's grandma eats for breakfast...when I'm out I like a bit of jiggy rubbish and some decent hip hop- but no long, self-indulgent funk sessions mid hip hop night just to show you know where the break came from- yawn. Also, pretty much no women care about old school so playing it is discriminatory. At the moment I'm listening to HYPNOTIC BRASS ENSEMBLE (constantly) Bjork, Roisin Murphy, 4Hero, Slum Village & Jay Dee :-(, Dabrye, Arctic Monkeys & Magic Numbers, Goapele, Soul Rebels, The Roots, Dwight Trible, Milosh, Res, Mos Def, Aloe Blacc, Amel Larieux, Talib Kweli, Arvo Part, Ozomatli, M.I.A., Herbert, Common, Kanye West, Eric Lau, The Clipse, Jay Z, 2 Face Idibia, New Sector Movements, Erro, Kasabian, Bridgitte Bardot, Anthony Hamilton, Rokia Traore, Goodie Mob, Med, Madlib, Kev Brown, Phoenix, Fink, Method Man, Wu Tang, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Dusty Springfield, Earth Wind and Fire, George Benson, Beanie Man, Gladys Knight, The Killers, JAMIE WOON, Joe Budden, Tawiah, Mary J Blige, Shaun Escofferey, Johnny Cash, Benny Goodman, Otis Redding, Sam Cook, Al Green, Outkast, Prince, Sade, the Ronettes, Soul 2 Soul, TLC, Tracey Chapman, Van Hunt, White Stripes, Freddie Jackson, Dorothy Moore, Dee Dee Sharp Gamble, James Brown, Jean Grae, Oneself & Yarah Bravo, Bustah Rhymes, Ty, Eska, Aphex Twin, a bit of blue grass music, KRS One, Kelis, Nas, The Andrews Sisters, Jill Scott, Koop, Alexander O'Neal, Erykah Badu, Milosh, Womack & Womack, Olivier DaySoul, Bobby Darin, Fela, Salt N Pepa, Cinematic Orchestra, Tiger Lillies, Blur, The Commmodores, Eric Lau, the Four Tops & Temptations, Dead Prez, Hi Tek, Those Guys, Five Deez, Oddisee, Tweet, J.Rawls, Dwele, Zap Mama, the magnificent Jazzy Jeff, Curtis & Donnie, Tor, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Little Brother, always Marvin Gaye & Smokey Robinson...and Dudley Perkins all the time even though he can't really sing or emcee.
I like...most action films generally, especially Shoot Em Up & Die Hard. Pretty much any Will Ferrel film, Gigi, Funny Girl, Pan's Labyrinth, The Labyrinth, The Never Ending Story, Borat, Bellville Rendezvous, The Blade, Matrix, X Men, Bourne & Lord of the Rings Trilogies, anything with Jet Li, Gong Li, Tony Ja, Chow Yun Fat and Ziyi Zhang, Spring Summer Autumn Winter & Spring Again, Ong Bak, Gypsy, Romeo & Juliet (the Franco Zeffereli version), How to Get Ahead in Advertising, Shawshank, Goonies, La Haine, The Wizard of Oz, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Fear of a Black Hat & CB4, anything with Audrey Hepburn or Cary Grant in it, Million Dollar Mermaid, Truly Madly Deeply, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Star Wars (I even like the last 3!), City of God, old skool Disney like the Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone, & Robin Hood, Jaws, and it's not really a film but Bill Bailey's Part Troll, I like to watch Motown 25 as regularly as possible (that's where the Marvin Gaye clip is from)...and when Soph & I hang out it has to be Old School-again! "i fu#$%ng need you more than ever..." I don't care if I'm the only person who thinks it's funnier than Anchorman, it is.
Anything funny- Mock the Week & Green Wing...The Sopranos & ER...oh dear. Blue Planet, Tribe, Ray Mears, Nigella Bites. Broke my TV months ago & haven't missed it really but might have to sort it out at some stage.
Anything by Dickens he's probably my favourite writer, the Autobiography of Malcom X, This House Has Fallen, Things Fall Apart, a few Isabelle Allende's, the Famished Road by Ben Okri, anything Arundhati Roy, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie or Haruki Murakami write, Sylvia Plath, Alex Haley, Miss Smillas Feeling for Snow, The Black Jacobins, J.M. Coetzee, Stendhal, The Female Eunuch, Quentin Crisp (you gotta love Crispy), I love Tolkein, No Place Like Home by Gary Younge, The Iliad, Brenda Dixon Gottschild, Greg Palast, and many many more...also, people, please give me some books back I can't remember who has what!
Dad, Katy, Ken Saro Wiwa, Fela, Martha Graham, Sophie Calle & Josephine Baker. Next time I see a shit & disrespectful cabaret version of La Bakaire I'm going to gouge their eyes out with their plastic bananas.
