“My voice has taken me places I’ve never dreamed of.” A true summary of the career of the talented vocalist, Cristina Sanchez. Though she is still young and vivacious, she has been a force on the move. Cristina, a Latina female vocalist from Chicago, IL, has made quite an impact on the music scene. From the age of 10, Cristina knew music was her calling. She began writing songs at the age of 15 and performing with local groups around Chicago. At 19, she performed and won 1st place at NYC famed “Amateur Night at the Apollo”. Convinced singing was her destiny, Cristina signed to Indasoul Records and released her hit remake “Free” which held #56 on Billboard and was a top requested song in the Midwest. Her video for “Free” was played on “The Box” and “BET”. Soon after, she was asked to sing backup for R. Kelly’s” T.P. 2000 World Tour.” She then came home and soon became one of the most sought after female vocalists in Chicago by performing with Top 40 bands such as The Ken Arlen Orchestra and The High Society Orchestra. She also started her own band, East Village Project, a funk-soul project that allowed Cristina to showcase her own music. In 2003, she recorded a jazzy-soul CD with the group FRAYNE, which consisted of Frayne and Bobby Lewis, the sons of Jazz Legend Ramsey Lewis. In 2005, she toured the U.S. with J Records artist, Heather Headley. In 2007, she was asked again to sing backup for R. Kelly’s “Light It Up” US Tour. Most recently, she returned from China where she performed and dazzled the crowds for 3 months in and around the country. Some other noteworthy performances include George W. Bush’s Inaugural Ball, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, New Years Eve 2006 and 2007 at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, NV, and the nationally televised NYC “Amateur Night at the Apollo” where she again took 1st place. Cristina is an adaptable, sophisticated, and versatile artist. Her reperatoire includes pop, R&B, Jazz, Latin, as well as other genres. The favorable response to Cristina’s lively and energetic performances have made her one of the most sought after female vocalists in Chicago. She has been compared to the likes of Alicia Keys, Teena Marie, and Mariah Carey. She is influenced by Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, La India, Aretha Franklin, and Ella Fitzgerald.
