Her voice has profoundly moved the hearts of music lovers. Singing in English and Spanish, she has mastered diverse musical genres from dance to salsa and has performed on hundreds of stages throughout the world. The power of her voice is one of a kind; note by note she makes one tremble, like no one else can. She is..INDIA.
India, the Puerto Rican singer-composer who hails from New York, was an integral part of the evolution of dance music in the New York discos and the rest of the world, during the decade of the '80s. In the '90s, India risked everything and decided to crossover, but in the opposite direction! She began recording in Spanish, being the first to do so successfully. She proudly continues the legacy of other great female vocalists of tropical music such as Celia Cruz and La Lupe.
In February 2006, India released Soy Diferente (I Am Different), her most recent production with SGZ Entertainment. In this album, under the production Sergio George and co-producer Isidro Infante, India shines as composer of almost all of the songs, collaborating with Jorge Luis Piloto, Sergio George, Santiago Larramendi, Nicolos Tovar, Luis R. Vazquez, Alejandro Montalban, Emilio Estefan, Jr., Ricardo Gaitan, and Alberto Gaitan.
There are very seductive rhythms and collaborations on this album, such as the duet with Cheka on the song that bears the album title "I Am Different," of which two versions were recorded - salsa and reggaeton.
At the end of 2002, after having been away from the entertainment world, India returned to the musical field with the super production, Latin Song Bird, Mi Alma y Corazon. On this album she displays her versatility as a composer. One of her songs, "Seduceme" (Seduce Me), which India describes as "very passionate," became an absolute success in its two versions - tropical and pop ballad - reaching the number one position on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart. Aside from being certified Gold, Latin Song Bird, Mi Alma y Corazon received numerous nominations and awards during 2003-2004: Grammy and Latin Grammy award, Billboard and Lo Nuestro Award nominations, receiving the BMI Award (Best Salsa Song of the year 2004), Billboard (Best Album - Tropical/Salsa, 2003), and a La Gente Award 2003.
India has participated in numerous musical presentations such as a tribute to the late Tejano sensation 'Selena Quintanilla - Perez' (2005), and the Telemundo television special dedicated to her godmother 'Celia Cruz' (2003). She has also participated in charity work such as the fight against AIDS, for which she received an award, and has contributed to social causes relating to children and adolescents - this is an extremely important part of her life.
Marvelous things can happen when one gives it their all in heart, body, and soul...that is precisely what India does in each of her concerts and musical endeavors. India is part of the history of Latin music on an international scale and her legacy lives on for this generation, and for those to come.
The 2007 Annual Latin Billboard Awards honored India with (2) Awards, Best Tropical Album of The Year Female for "Soy Diferente" and Latin Dance Club Play track of the Year for "Just For One Night/Solamente Una Noche".
