Don't make me go Redhead on your ass!

About Me

OTIS REDDING IS THE ONLY MAN I WOULD EVER LEAVE MY LOUIS FOR, and here's WHY!I am a 36 year old seller of junk (junque?)... and mother to a beautiful 19 year old daughter and an amazing 7 year old son. Significant other to a brown eyed handsome man who blows my mind. Natural redhead and proud of it. Me and my man LOOOOOVE to dance so if you do too, let's meet up at Char's sometime when our favorite local band is playing-the BAD NEWS Blues Band. Music fanatic/freak that loves to learn more every day! Student of a life that really scares me sometimes, but I keep plugging away. I love what I do because the past has always had its claws in me, from a very young age. I enjoy connecting to that which has come before because it is so good to know from where you have come-good to know your roots. I really don't understand much about the modern world, so I take from it what I can use and ignore the rest. I collect everything from the early 60s on back...crazy plastic kitchenware, clothing and jewelry (BAKELITE!), pottery, etc., but my main love is vintage textiles. Oh god, give me a stack of 50s printed tablecloths to pet and I am a happy, happy girl. I am an eBay slave and sell under the name "bettys-vintage-house". I curse and bless the eBay gods at regular intervals. So, that's me.

My Interests

Old stuff, making a cool home for those I love, DANCING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE with my Man, sewing with vintage materials and doing handwork, buying way more fabric than any woman should, ironing on my beautiful 1958 Ironrite mangle named Betsy, playing in the dirt and growing things, dressing vintage, flirting with new ideas, leather and all that goes along with it, wishing I lived in a different time (but with slightly adjusted social values so I could legally marry the man I love), overcoming inhibitions, playing with my friends, lusting after that 50s Chevy Nomad I have wanted my whole life. Learning what it means to truly be loved, cherished and completely owned. Being with my big ol' chocolate man and making him happy. Enjoying the hell out of my middle 30s, and thanking the gods I am done with my 20s.

I'd like to meet:

I want to have coffee with Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken and Kevin Smith. Maybe not all at once, but eventually....I have met some really neat people in my life-some famous, some not. Meeting Carlos Santana was a gift from the gods. Also Brian Setzer, Junior Brown, Bruce Campbell, John Corbett (yum yum)...celebrities they may be but it was nice to realize that they are all real people. Here, it would be nice to get to know folks who are not so impressed with their hipness that they are snooty. I don't care how many tattoos someone has, or how much money they make...I just would like to get to know some nice people who just happen to be on the fringe. People who understand how exciting the sound of a singletail can be are a plus. I'd love to get to know other gardeners in Phoenix and folks who love to sew using old patterns and vintage materials-let's trade ideas!

Music:

Music is INCREDIBLY important to me...I love it all, but tend to stay close to jazz, blues, vintage/classic rock, swing, ROCKABILLY, Rhythm and Blues (as Miss Tayva says-the blacker the better!)...oh, and I like BOTH kinds-Country AND Western, but only the real stuff, none of this "new" country crap. Hank, Johnny Cash, any and all rockabilly cats like the Burnettes, Carl, Eddie, Gene and other unsung heroes, most doo-wop (too much to mention here) Faron Young, Rose Maddox, Santo and Johnny, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Jimmie Lunceford, Wynonnie Harris, Clyde McPhatter and the Dominoes, Jackie Wilson, Wilson Picket, Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli, Johnny Otis, Amos Milburn, Roy Milton, Jack Nitzsche, Dorsey Brothers, Brian Setzer both Orchestra and Stray Cats, Sinatra, Dino, Coleman Hawkins, Coltrane and Bird, Miles of course...don't laugh but I LOVE Jackie Gleason... Martin Denny, Les Baxter, Arthur Lyman, Nina Simone, Leadbelly, Sleepy John Estes, Blind Willie McTell, Skip James, Sonny Terry, Sonny Boy Williamson, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Woody Guthrie, Honeyboy Edwards, Lightnin' Hopkins, Robert Johnson, Charlie Christian, Billie Holiday, Jerry Butler, Charles Brown, SON HOUSE, Ray Charles OH YES, Arthur Prysock, Joe Williams and Count Basie, CAB CALLOWAY, Freddy Slack and Ella Mae Morse, all the big band greats like Miller, Goodman, etc., Vince Guaraldi was the COOLEST Jazz cat EVER...New York Dolls, Velvet Underground, Dead Boys, Richard Hell, Sex Pistols, Marc Bolan and T-Rex, The Doors and all that lovely 60s psychedelica, The Sweet, Queen, 70s glam rock holds a special place in my heart, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington...lordy almighty, I could go on all night. Movies:

I just saw GRINDHOUSE and I was floored. Something to finally get excited about!! Eddie and the Cruisers, Streets of Fire, The Warriors, The Loveless, Get Crazy, Empire Records, High Fidelity, American Graffiti, Lords of Flatbush, American Hot Wax, Stormy Weather, Tattoo, Bubba Ho-Tep, Six String Samurai, Harold and Maude, Billy Jack, The Crow, Hairspray, Cry Baby, Polyester, The Majestic, Ray, World's Fastest Indian, The Women, Casablanca, My Man Godfrey, Greygardens, Firefly, pretty much any rock and roll themed movie out there, Some Like It Hot, Now Voyager, Star Trek flicks, X-Men, Ghost World, anything Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken and Steve Buscemi have done...40s and 50s movies whose names escape me; teenage deliquent car death movies, Bullit, Vanishing Point, Duel, any old movie with a bitchin' soundtrack, god bless Ted Turner for TCM.

Television:

I mostly hate TV, but I will watch Battlestar Galactica, Dresden Files, and now that my small son has discovered Boomerang, I get to re-watch all my favorite old cartoons! Most of what is popular in the mainstream is such CRAP that I don't even waste my time. God love the dumbing down of America!

Books:

I tend towards mysteries...I have a major crush on Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware series. Don't have alot of time to read new stuff. I collect vintage children's books, and my favorite kid's authors are Elizabeth Enright and Lois Lenski. Recently got interested in Robert Heinlein again.

Heroes:

My beautiful, brave little girl is my heroine right now. She is so brave and stronger than I ever thought. I am very proud to call myself her mom. My grandmothers, both of them. If their gnarled, beautiful hands could talk...one raised 3 boys, the other 4 girls. They are so wise. One is lost to me now, curse Alzheimers, but the other is spry and still does her own hair at 88. My other hero(ine) is every single young mother out there who had to make dinner out of nothing and serve it with a carefree smile.
