Real Revolutionary!

About Me

Mavriq“Oh Lord, how my adversaries have increased. Many are rising up against me. Many are saying of my soul that there is no deliverance for him in God. But thou, oh Lord, art a shield about me. My Glory and the One who lifts my head."Meet Mavriq Brown. Mavriq has been writing songs for over 10 years and has been voicing in the studio just as long. He has performed mostly in the Toronto area as well as overseas and has opened for such well-know and established Reggae artistes like Elephant Man, and Tanto Metro and Devonte. In the studio, Mavriq takes a “no-nonsense” approach to voicing his songs. He often starts off by creating the chord progression of each song on his Epiphone Gibson guitar then fills the “riddim” with the melody and lyrics that will complete the song. With every song that Mavriq writes, he tries to capture the issues that are plaguing society today. Focusing on our children and communities as well as trying to get the message through to the people that "not just because you are poor now.. means that you have to remain that way". Mavriq is basically trying to change the mindset of the poor people and give them a hope. Pretty intense for a man who is currently in his mid-20's.Mavriq's parents moved to Canada searching for a better life from the struggles that they were faced with growing up in Jamaica. They did not want their children to be faced with this burdening struggle. While in Canada, they brought forth Mavriq. Being born in Canada and visiting his remaing family members in Jamaica has allowed Mavriq to notice the similarities and also the differences in the struggles between North America and in Jamaica. This also played a major role in his choice of song topics. Mavriq comes from musical roots in Jamaica as his father has played with all the musical greats such as Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs and Leroy Sibbles to name a few.Mavriq is the lead singer of “ THE MEMBERS” Reggae band located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Along with his duties as the band’s lead singer, he also plays percussion. This band is spear-headed by one of the most talented musicians on the Toronto local scene. Band members include Rosco playing keyboards and trombone, Charmazelle who plays keyboards and soulfully sings harmonies. On the drums is Cleevie aka “One Drop”, who also has a sweet singing voice. Guitar is played by the vibrant Reggae Rich, and the band is held tightly together with Bassie. “THE MEMBERS” band delivers songs of rebellion, love and social awareness with a “rootsy” international feel.Mavriq is under the banner of Donsome Records, Ltd., the burgeoning, all-inclusive Record Label located in Portmore, St. Catherine, Jamaica. Under the tutelage, discernment and watchful eye of Donsome’s CEO and Owner Ras Handsome, Mavriq is ready to take his career to higher heights. Through his gifted craft, Mavriq wants to tell the people that “Music is naturally in the hearts of all people, so it's only natural that we express it positively. It’s a One Love thing.”Bless….
