Shrewd Lucy’s Gritty, Genuine, Alternative Rock sound has been making it’s way into the San Diego music scene since early March 2007. From a knuckle dragging and seemingly primitive solo project, Shrewd Lucy has evolved into an upright standing, 4 member campaign, determined to infect the world with the benefits of bi-pedalism. The project’s momentum has; produced two self-released album's, received local and internet radio attention, harnessed a rapidly growing fan base, and has launched the foursome into natural selection gear, running over their audiences with infectious heavy hitting reality. This band’s Un-matched hunger for success and do it yourself attitude is one that would stir Darwin himself.

Collyn Pankratz - Vox/Guitars/Harmonica
Born and raised in Alaska, I’ve been a self-taught Singer/Songwriter since 2002 after I graduated from the University of Buffalo, NY with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. I took a few piano lessons when I was 11 and have been playing guitar since 1998......recording and producing my own music since 2002. So far I’ve written, performed, recorded, and produced two Shrewd Lucy self-released albums (Mirror and Hey Mother) between February of 2007 and August of 2007 both of which have received great reviews and attention. As I’m a product of my influences from traditional singer/songwriter folk music to 90’s Seattle rock and beyond, I formed Shrewd Lucy based on a reflection of myself and my ideology of artistic expression. It’s about being real, being genuine, and (in my opinion) getting back to what music is supposed to be.
Jason Kowalskie - Bass/Vox
After being on my first stage at age five with a microphone, a cowboy hat two sizes too large, and my grandfather’s encouragement, I have pursued my goal of live musical performance. Growing up in both Delaware and Virginia before moving to Los Angeles, I’ve had the luck of playing to audiences up and down the east coast along with major cities to the west. I’ve played both guitar and bass in bands since the age of 14 and have been fortunate enough to share stages with Frank Black and Dave Matthews. I have worked with (and learned much from) several Grammy winning producers and engineers and my influences come from everything I hear and feel. I will only be involved with a project that moves me both physically and emotionally and live performances that connect with the audience leaving them wanting more. I have respect for the music and the people that I perform with.
Steve Wilke - Drums/Percussion
Symphonic Band, Drum Corps, and Jazz Ensemble were a few of my early studies. I started out playing the crash cymbals in the 6th grade band at the age of 11. I was terrible, but it was too late!... I was hooked!!! I began studying traps at age 12 with a man named Jon Sontag. At 16 I studied with Thomas Stamper of Ashland, OR and studied rudimental jazz drums until I was 18. I performed locally with various artists including at the state and regional jazz festivals with the highschool jazz ensemble. Unfortunately, enlisting in the Marine Corps soon after forced me to put down the traps for a few years, but now being settled.... I met Collyn of Shrewd Lucy and have been rehearsing with his band ever since. My influences include jazz, alternative rock, ska and hardcore. I have much respect for all the musicians that have influenced me throughout my life, and I continually use music as a means for personal growth and mental development.
Derek Dossey - Guitars/Vox
Growing up in what is now known as the "O.C." I learned that looking good and playing well are two completely different things. I bought my first electric guitar at the age of 18 for $117 dollars at a pawn shop. After learning a few tricks from friends I decided to head south and pursue a degree in music. While attaining my degree at San Diego State’s school of music I formed the local Jazz Funk band "Big BackYard" and toured the southwest with moderate success. Eventually things dissipated and I bounced from project to project playing sessions for numerous local SD acts. By chance, I made my way to finding that Collyn’s band was searching for a new lead guitarist and now am fortunate to call my self a part of Shrew Lucy!!!

~ INSIGHT ~

Q: WHAT’S WITH THE NAME?
A: In Ethiopia in 1974 archeologists found a 3.2 million year old skeleton (Australopithecus Afarensis) believed to be one of our first bi-pedal ancestors. They named it "Lucy".
