In 2006, John recorded one of his songs entitled “A Home Within Myself,†with pianist, Jeremy Wall, a founding member of the Grammy winning jazz band, Spyro Gyra. In 2007 he received an honorable mention in the "Song of the Year" competition, an international contest with an elite-panel of judges consisting of Grammy Award winners as well as individuals from Rolling Stone, ABC television, and others in the industry.
