About Me

Coco Mbassi is a multiple award nominee and winner (RFI, BBC German CD Critics Award), known for her mellow and intricate sultry and delicate vocals, symbolizes our global world as she blends African roots with Gospel, Soul, Classical and Jazz influences acquired over the years. From a young age, Coco is exposed modern and traditional music, Haendel, James Brown, the Jackson well as Mahalia Jackson and others. Years later, when she moves she starts singing backing vocals in Paris with most major World She starts touring worldwide in 1997 and never stops, presenting albums Sepia and Sisea as she performs; Reading, Lafayette, Singapore and even Adelaide will benefit from Coco's enchanting voice. She has collaborated with many musicians from Paris, France and London, UK in a band that ranges from 2 to 8. She often performs in a two-piece acoustic band with Serge Ngando Mpondo (bass, double-bass, guitar). She is now working on a new album. Stay tuned for updates!!!

Influences: Recent and since childhood, musical:Dina Bell, Sarah Vaughan, Georg Friedrich Haendel, Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, Toto Guillaume, Miriam Makeba, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson (until 'Black or White'), Kirk Franklin, Take 6, Dianne Reeves, ...and all the others whose music seeped in without me noticing it.Literary:The Bible, Pride and Prejudice (ah Lizzy!)-Jane Austen-, La Ferocite Blanche (Rosa-Amelia Plumelle-Uribe), Everything Happens For a Reason (Kavita Daswani), And God Created The Au-Pair (Benedicte Newland & Pascale Smets), Roots (Alex Haley), I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings (Maya Angelou) and all her books especially All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes and her poem 'Phenomenal Woman', The Way Forward Is With A Broken Heart (Alice Walker) and all her books - of course, The Color Purple-, Waiting To Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back (Terry McMillan) and so many others...I LOVE BOOKS!!!
