About Me

SKIN DEEP, by Tina

This local book club was began by a thirst for more. To learn more, to relate more, to build more. The first book & meeting was a success: Our Kind of People by Lawrence Otis Graham. This book was an eye opener, contains great black history, and shines a light on "high society" of African Americans. It will blow you away. See the blog for more info on the meeting we had on 9/9/06 .

Hello...book club meeting for this Saturday is canceled due to lack of participation. I hope to do some more marketing later in the year...but for now...I will just be reading and posting my thoughts. Feel free to comment as well to the blogs.Peace... The next book club selection is based on race relations and will be announced next week. This idea came up through a discussion with a long time friend. I noticed it with my own people but I never knew that it existed with just about all ethnic races. The simple thought is this: the lighter your skin, the better you are. One step beyond that is that if you are light or marry white or light, then you have made an "upgrade". While this is one of the most ridiculous ideas I've heard in my life, I find that the more educated a person is about themselves and the people in this world, typically the more level-headed they seem to be.
For a long time, I thought that I would marry someone that looked like me and that had a similar history. Today, I am no longer embracing those narrow-minded views but there are so many who still do. While I do think that a person's personal preference is just that, being with someone just b/c of their race is so ridiculous I think. I have encountered so many people (even dated them) who were just that twisted. When does it become an attack and hate on your ownself and ancestry for dumb reasons versus just a pure color blindness??? This one is sure to be hot!!!
The bookclub's mission is to not hate on the country that we live in. It only serves as a forum for discussing social issues and making us (the chosen few) more aware. This awareness hopefully will allow us to make more informed decisions and expose us to more than what is broadcasted on our "purchased media" of tv, radio, and newspaper. It's just another way of getting information or the big picture.
You are more than welcome to join as we need more members. Enrollment is free.

Music soothes my soul. Poetry is how I express my most inner me. I am in this world but in my own world as well. I consider myself a leader, outspoken, wannabe race car driver, & authentic! KINGS (A Husband's Thoughts to His Wife)KINGS (A Husband's Thoughts to His Wife)
With you I begin the rest of my life because before you I could never see the entire forest because of the trees, Never knew that I could pray this hard this deep but I stayed constantly on my knees, Because I knew you were coming. Even in my sin and wicked ways you understood my plight & said all is forgiven and so old, lost, and gone are those darker days. Today you are my light...you give breath and depth to my life...you are ...my wife.
I love you like no one or nothing I've ever loved before...I am glad that you stuck around and introduced to me love...and to search...I have to no more.
My heart...forever searching for that completeness...alas it found faith not only in God, but in love because of you... You are so wonderful, so priceless, I thank God he selected me special, just for you...a diamond in the rough... come here my sweet be with me forever, enough is never too much, with you!
I'm filled to the rim...look at it as it overflows...my love for you IS real, and you know better than anyone will.
Nahh...this ain't no temporary contentment topped off with just some sex....anyone can do that...but it takes a soul...to think about and value what comes before and next.
I love you ....from head to toe...from the way your eyebrows arch...to that funnylooking big toe. You are a King even though you are a woman in every sense...we are all headed towards one direction in life...and now that I know you...I've found you...it makes all the sense and everything is goin' be alright.
Think no more of times before...shattered dreams...of lovers amiss...dancing in the fog trying to steal your sweetness...with an unwarranted...unworthy kiss....dismiss...you were made for me...and I was lucky enough to be joined with you...they will never know you and be deep enough to care for the awesome woman inside of you.
They may try...to front...and claim to be "a man"...but what is left after all the physical & attempts to only be your "friend"? did they ever really get to know you..., I think not b/c it will take me a lifetime to understand every inch of you...how you do the things you do and why... How you swing your hips like that, how you sometimes sigh. What makes you happy, what makes you laugh...tell me or let it be a mystery...let me discover these things and more in you... I enjoy being in this position, and I thank God I am Man enough to handle you.
For you, it takes a special kind of man...scripted for this type of woman so great, I am clueless as to how any other man approached you before, knowing that he wasn't enough to fulfill your everY desire, to support & tap into your inner core.
Again I say, King...because no one said that a King need be a man...We are Kings together...stronger, complete, connected, finally in this unfriendly Land we call Earth.
