When discovering Views of Tao's music for the first time, only one thing comes to our mind: since we are faced with a duet of such a talented multi-instrumentist and so beautiful, sensual and amazing a singer, why can't we but think those sounds are like a journey through strange and experimental landscapes? This feeling is the main one which remains: all here is about sound, rhythm, loops, synthetic waves and a perpetually evoluting voice. One thing is certain: all is about inspiration and sensations during this stay in an electronic and living music. But can both sides complete each other? ABOUT florence LËON : Born of a Flemish mother and a French father, who is a double bass player at the Lille National Orchestra, Florence LEON bathed in the world of classical music from an early age, and started studying piano at the age of 7. She was registered for the International School in Lille and spent a part of this time studying in France, England, US and Belgium. After studying graphic arts, photography and piano, she founded the group “Soul city” which counted among its members Didier Cresson (the bass player for DEEP FOREST), and Jérémy Jouniaux (Lara FABIAN’s pianist), and together they played a repertoire drawing mainly on black American music from the 70s. Meanwhile, she met Dan LIEFOOGHE, composer and founder of the group VIEWS OF TAO. They worked together on a few songs, but at the age of 22, Florence decided to devote herself entirely to the study of piano and opera singing. After graduating from the conservatoire, and having spent three years singing operette, she went to Brussels to continue her studies at the Conservatoire Royal Supérieur in Brussels. She was then hired by the Théâtre de la Monnaie (De Munt), collaborating in particular with the director Robert WILSON on a production of Verdi’s Aïda. At this point she met up with Dan LIEFHOOGHE, and they decided to work together once again. This allowed Florence to apply her songwriting talents, which she had been developing over several years, to the musical compositions of VIEWS OF TAO. It was also the occasion to combine her various interests in graphic design, photography, singing, writing and drama.

ABOUT Dan LIEFOOGHE :
Born in 1969 in French Flanders, Dan drew attention as a self-taught bass player from the age of 12. After having played in several jazz-rock bands, he trained as a craftsman for MUSELET, a stringed-instrument maker in Lille, specialising in the double bass and the cello. This allowed him to meet some of the great double bass players, and in particular Michel HATZI-GEORGOU (AKAMOON), who offered Dan a place in his class at the Conservatoire Royal Supérieur in Brussels, where he made an impact outside his formal studies, excelling in improvisation and in composition. He created the jazz-fusion trio VIEWS OF TAO and for the release of their first album, played a supporting role for several well-known artists such as JOE ZAWINUL (WEATHER REPORT). In 1998 he got a contract with the FENDER company as an electric bass demonstration player. From that time on, he was in ever greater demand for various projects, ranging from sophrology to the theatre to cinema productions. He received an award at the 60th anniversary of the MOSTRA in Venice, for his work on Sarah Moon Howe’s ..ary film, “Ne dites pas à ma mère”. At the same time as his musical activity, Dan LIEFOOGHE has developed his talents in the visual arts, and his work has been displayed in several exhibitions around Europe. His discovery of electronic music has enabled him to remain at the cutting edge of musical research. Dan’s desire to join his compositions with the human voice and the written word has been made possible due to his collaboration with the singer-songwriter Florence LEON. After just one year working together, they made a double album which reveals a wide variety of influences. Now, the electro-acoustic group VIEWS OF TAO appears in Paris, Brussels and London
