About Me

LIVE & DANGEROUS Thin Lizzy played by Ross Curry, Peter Vink, Ed Warby en Boudewijn Bonebakker
On the 4th of January 2004, Mezz in Breda organized a tribute to commemorate the 28th date Phil Lynnots death. A Dutch version of the Irish Vibo for Philo.
For this occasion the (at that time) former Gorefest guitarist Boudewijn Bonebakker, was asked to form a band that could headline this day.
Bonebakker, who never hid the fact that he is a huge Thin Lizzy fan, could use a bit of excitement after 6 years off absence from the electrified music scene, so he complied.
He asked drummer and former Gorefest buddy Ed Warby , also a big Lizzy fan, if he was in the mood to join in. Well he was. Ed Warby, who had done most of the drumming on Star One and Ayreon , was the link to Peter Vink (Q65, Finch and The BoxX), who is also known for his work for the Arjen Lucassen projects.
This bass god turned out to be a Lizzy fanatic as well and cried out "Im in!" as soon as he heard of the plans. The foundation was laid.
Next up was the biggest problem: finding a good second guitarist but most of all a good vocalist. After a long and ever becoming more desperate search Ross Curry came into view. Curry, known from Seed, Spo-Dee-O-Dee and Shamus, wasn't unfamiliar either with the Lizzy discography. (unconfirmed sources say that he has a special altar in his home with all Thin Lizzy albums embedded in black roses.) Ross didn't mind to sing and asked if he should bring his Les Paul as well. Should he?!? Twee vliegen in ....n klap. A band name was found in the title of the legendary Thin Lizzy live album Live And Dangerous.
The four musicians dove into the rehearsal studio and within ample seconds it was clear: this band rocks! Thundering versions of Waiting for an Alibi and Massacre, a roaring Jailbreak, a Boys are Back in Town that will make every house fall flat on its facade and a Cold Sweat that will chill you to the bone, to name but a few.
A thumping and ass-tight rhythm section, screaming guitar solos, soulful and haunting vocals, but most of all a tremendous amount of fun on stage and in the crowd made the gig of Live & Dangerous in Breda legendary. And not only to Lizzy fans.
Some words from reviews:
"From the first notes on in Jailbreak I got goose bumps..." Curry and Bonebakker played the terrific twinsolos of the most well known Lizzy guitar duos perfect The song choice was highly original Bas player Vink had great fun playing the roaring baselines of Lynnot Ed Warby! Unbelievable what this man does; hardly ever has anyone been seen playing the drums so tight and so effortless. He understood the swing and groove of Lizzy drummer Brian Downey to the maximum Of Ross Curry I knew he was blessed with a great throat, but that his guitar playing is so impressive was a welcome surprise with a perfect knowledge of the history of Thin Lizzy, Live & Dangerous degraded many a well paid hard-rock tribute band to imitation clowns..."
