Fyl Kalis

Born in New York City of Greek & Sicilian descent with the birth of Rock n’ Roll. Fully devout by the British Invasion when Phil and his older brother put down the family issued piano and accordion and picked up the guitar and drums. Before long The Brookville Beats along with “Tell Me that You Love Me” their first original song were out performing. Mainly for unsuspecting neighbors who heard them playing from the family’s front porch in Brookville NY. The Brookville Beats evolved into the “Hairy Lemons” where Phil moved from drums to guitar and continued as lead vocalist. The Hairy Lemons peaked with their performance at Jones Beach playing for nearly eleven thousand screaming fans. Their matching yellow polka dot Tom Jones shirts, bell bottoms and suede Beatle boots were a memorable image as the opening act for the Pixie Kin Puppet Show. The music got serious in the next group, The Relics with Phil now on Hofner bass ( still in use today) continuing to sing most of the vocals. It was after this group things get a little foggy. There were several groups that Phil either fronted, played guitar or bass or piano. Eventually tired of the “Spinal Tap” syndrome, frustrated and broke Phil went into business and created the first “Musicians Exchange” which evolved and grew into the 5th largest music company in America. During the next several years Phil built businesses raised a family and enjoyed a very good life. Although he was living a huge life with some local celebrity Phil gave it all up. Simply walked away from all the trappings of a successful life and moved to the Los Angeles area to pursue various interests in the entertainment industry and real estate. But mostly to enjoy life meet some wonderful people and have fun!
