Born Trina Danielle Washington, June 14, 1974 to Dr. Donald J. Washington and Shirlean Washington of Columbus, OH, God knew what He was doing when He entrusted her with the gift of music. When Trina was born, her testimony had begun as the enemy tried to snatch her away from the world. She swallowed amniotic fluid in which it drowned her lungs and had to be rushed to NICU. Her parents were told that she had a 20% chance of living and if she did recover, she would be in a vegetated state for the rest of her life. God did not mandate it so. "Trina" means "pure" in which she is in spirit and "Danielle" means "God is my judge" so it was His last say so for His anointed child. God had a special plan for her in which she strives to please Him through psalm and blessing others. Singing and playing at the age of three, Trina was reared in a baptist church that her father currently presides as pastor of the Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church. Serving as Minister of Music, Trina has played for and with some of the nations greatest including Kim McFarland, the late Anthony Harmon, Melvin Crispell and Gary (Lil' G) Jenkins formerly of R&B group "Silk" just to name a few. You will often see Trina with her younger sibling and protege, Donald "DoniJai" Washington who is also featured on MySpace Music. With a four octave vocal range and over thirty years experience in the music field, Trina is best known for melting and blending her seemingly flawless note holding alongside her chord progression and old school Twinkie Clark and Thomas Whitfield influenced organ playing. Currently holding the titles of songwriter, composer, pianist, keyboardist and best known for being an organist, the world will be hearing about Trina! Band Members: My production trio, Doni Washington, Greg Johnson and Hamilton Hardin. They are the brainchild behind Trina's music. I just sing and play from time to time
Influences: It's a long list and I probably won't cover them all but here's a sample listing. My father, Dr. Donald J. Washington, my brother DoniJai (you were inspirational when you were born and I knew God had gave me something special), Maurice Jackson (the first guy I ever blended with musically besides my father and brother), Stanley V. Wood (who taught me how to play the Hammond B3 and have that rich COGIC sound),Greg Johnson (My boop bee who loves Trina Washington without all the music. He's just simply the best in what he does and he pushes me to be the very best! I LOVE YOU!)Hamilton Hardin(He says that I influenced him! Well my brother influences BIG SIS! Love you!) Nikki Ross (She IS the truth), Bobby Sparks (He knows why I love him), Joseph M. Thrower (He's responsible for my vocal training) Greg Phillinganes (woooo), Mano Hanes (thank you for releasing Y.F.C.C. aka Crusade back in 1993. It changed my chord structure forever...love you!) Take 6, Freddie Mercury of Queen, Manhattan Transfer, David Foster, Richard Smallwood, Minister Thomas Whitfield, Kenny Loggins, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Lalah Hathaway, Chuckii Booker, Eric Benet, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Jeff Lorber, Norman Connors, Earth, Wind and Fire, Mint Condition, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, The Clark Sisters (especially "Twinkie"), William "Chipper" Smith (who pushed and encouraged me), Darius Brooks, Tony Toni Tone, Tonex, Phyllis Hyman, Bill Lee, Claire Fischer, Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack, Melvin Crispell, James Hall and Worship and Praise. That is the short list but primarily the main ones that have an effect on how I play, write and sound!
