CONSTANCE DEMBY
TRAVEL ON A BEAM OF SOUND TO THE HEART OF THE UNIVERSE with Constance Demby, an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-nominated, award winning performing and recording artist who has been hailed as the 21st century's Mozart / Bach / Beethoven. A tall order for anyone to be associated with, but in Constance's case one founded on the most extraordinary musical and creative talent that is testimony to her prolific output and the profound healing both listeners and participants experience, alongside critical acclaim that has followed her every step of progress in a career spanning decades.
The sounds she creates, rich and compelling, call up archetypal experiences which access the deeper, more profound levels of the mind-body-spirit. One critic states: "She weaves a symphonic journey that is essentially a transmission from above, yet connects from the inside out - almost like you lose your feet but gain your soul. As the tones are transmitted, a dimensional shift occurs, allowing listeners to open, release and merge into states of expanded consciousness."
In live concert, Constance presents a range of sonic environments, accompanied by her penetrating voice: the cosmic-electronic symphonic orchestra performed on digital sampling synthesizers; the wooden hammer dulcimer with over 100 strings; and the Sonic Steel Space Bass, a ten foot sheet of steel that produces deep, primoridal, resonant sounds. An original design, the Space Bass been recorded by Lucas Skywalker Studios for use in filmscores such as "A.I." and filmed by Discovery Channel for "The Power of Music."
She has toured the world, presenting at such locations as the Great Pyramid and Kings Chamber at Giza, Egypt; Stonehenge and Sacred Sites all over the UK; Barcelona and other cites in Spain; Sau Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil; Caves in the Canary Islands; IONS Intl Conference with Deepak Chopra; Sacred Music Festival with the Dalai Lama; Palace of Fine Arts in SF; Tokyo, NYC, LA, Seattle, Sedona, and many other locations.
Dedicated to exploring the healing power of sound and it's ability to alter consciousness, Constance has received countless letters from listeners who experienced a major healing or life shift, and from healers and therapists who use the music in sessions to deepen and facilitate their work. A classically trained artist performing since the age of 12, Demby's music has been compared by critics to Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Brahms, Palestrina, Rachmaninoff, Wagner, Puccini, Debussy, Ravel, Vangelis, Copland, Mahler, and Vivaldi. Her focus has included sculpture & painting, with one-woman shows in Greenwich Village. Music, myth, art, and spirit merged in her SPACE MASS, a spectacular multi-media production combining painting, film, massive environmental sculptures, music, dance and ritual. She is composer, performer, multi-instrumentalist, painter, sculptor, instrument designer, multi-media producer, and healer for our times.
