About Me

The Music Video Above: "Ardas" (a prayer), sung by Singh Kaur, from Crimson Vol. 6
Welcome! Thanks for visiting. I mostly speak, broadcast, write/blog about spirituality, comparative religion, sacred texts, world scriptures, Gnostic gospels or other "lost books" unearthed in the Middle east, also about Inner Light and Sound Meditation -- Sant Mat -- Surat Shabd Yoga, and the God-intoxicated Poetry of the Mystics of the East, the Bhakti Path of the Lover and the Beloved.
Spiritual Awakening Radio (via Healthy Life NET - The Positive Talk Radio Network and other stations) explores the world of spirituality, comparative religion, websites, and books, attempting to bring a new degree of depth to this subject than is usually found in the marketplace of ideas including in the media, also to introduce spiritual seekers to the lesser-known sources of wisdom, and books that might not necessarily be promoted by large corporations or conveniently sitting on local bookstore shelves.
The same is also true in the Sant Mat category of Indian Mysticism. This Mission is dedicated to Remedial Sant Mat 101 for those who seek to come to a deeper understanding of the teachings of Masters and develop their own meditation practice. Here you will find daily spiritual quotes based upon the Teachings the Masters of the East, giving everyone access to rare books from India, some of which are only now appearing in English for the very first time. You'll hear or read satsang talks, which are spiritual discourses representing a Living School of Spirituality known as Sant Mat, a term from India which can be translated as: "The Path of the Masters", "Way of the Saints", or "Way of Sages".
This site is also non-sectarian and inter-faith in tone, inclusive of the wisdom of all the great world religions and schools of mystics. All Are Welcome. As Maharishi Mehi once said, quoted in the book, The Harmony of All Religions: "In different times and different places Saints appear and their followers name their religion according to the Sage or Saint who propounded that tradition. The appearance of differences can be attributed to time, place, and language. This gives rise to various labels for the common views held by all religions. Likewise, due to excessively zealous followers, these seeming differences are often amplified. When all sectarianism and the temporal and linguistic aspects are removed, the basic principles of all the Saints are in accord and the voices of the Saints are in harmony."
Namaste', In the Love, Light, and Sound of the Beloved,

Seven Things I Believe (and Experience)
*1) God is Real.
*2) God is Love, the Ocean of Love and Compassion.
*3) All of the world scriptures teach about the same manifestation of God as inner mystical Light and Sound.
*4) Our true identity is soul, the Self. Soul is part of God and therefore is, like God, pure love.
*5) During this human existence we have an opportunity to experience God.
*6) As we experience communing with God's love during meditation -- Surat Shabd Yoga, we can rise above body-consciousness and explore Inner Space, the "Kingdom of the Heavens" that are within us. "We travel back from the realm of Darkness to the realm of Light, from the Light to divine Sound, and from the realm of Sound to the Soundless state." (Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj) The drop merges back into the Ocean of Love.
*7) As we get initiated into the Mysteries of the Spirit by a Living Teacher (Sant Satguru), the purpose of our life is fulfilled. Reuniting with God is our reason to be here: "It was for the sake of the God-conscious beings that our True Lord created this earth, and began this play of death and birth." (Adi Granth) Kabir says: "For millions of years you have slept. This morning, will you not wake?"
"All beautiful forms and tones of this world are mere reflections of some aspect of that ultimate Love-Music of the Great Creative Word. Within the vast complex of creation, each individual spirit is himself/herself a spark of that Eternal Song of Love."
"There are those who have wandered among the darting comets and the shimmering orbs of sounding fire. The soul-explorer is not alone, for there are those who have traveled the highways of the inner cosmos; far more than one may at first realize."
"...The planes of heaven are about us everywhere. One has only to know this simple truth consciously, and then we will be free." (George Arnsby Jones)
Michio Kaku: "How could it be that we live in a ten dimensional universe? Well the skeptics hardly laugh anymore. Around the world, the nation's leading physicists are scrambling to learn this bizarre theory that may allow us to read the mind of God, called string theory, which says that music resonating through hyperspace may be the mind of God." ("Parallel Worlds -- A Journey Through Creation, Higher Dimensions, And the Future of the Cosmos")
Julian Johnson, in, Path of the Masters: "Try now to get a picture of that luminous reality, the grand orchestra of the universe. Its heavenly strains are not only filling all interstellar space but they are ringing with far more enchanting Music through all the higher worlds beyond the utmost bounds of the physical. The higher we go, the more enchanting the Music. In those higher worlds the Music is less mixed with matter, and so it is not dulled. After passing the Third Region on the Path of the Masters, this sublime chorus becomes so overwhelmingly attractive that the soul grows impatient to go on up. It is absorbed in it. It lives in it day and night. It is its life, its joy, its spiritual food. There is not a cubic millimeter of space in existence which is not filled with this Music. Sweeter and sweeter its heavenly strains vibrate through every living being, great or small, from world to world, and from universe to universe. Its life-giving melodies may not be consciously heard by those who are not trained to catch them, but there is not one living being in all creation which does not derive its life from this Current."
My Most Favorite Spiritual Quote of All-time, from Yogani Mata Ji, On The Power of Love and Meditation Practice
From the chapter on MataJi in the book, Enchanted Land: Mataji exuded a sense of joy and happiness. We talked for more than three hours about a variety of subjects, but I was most intrigued with Mataji's experiences on the inner spiritual planes. I asked her what it was like to leave the body. Mataji responded with a beautiful description of how consciousness can be released from the mortal frame by attaching itself to the stream of celestial music radiating from the top of the head and beyond. To do this, she said, one first must be initiated by a genuine mystic who has gained access to the higher realms. The practice itself, although it may take years to master, sounds relatively simple. The body should be kept perfectly still with one particular posture held for at least three hours. One may choose a cross-legged position (like the yogis in the lotus pose) or a more comfortable, relaxed position in a chair. Keeping the back erect and the mind alert, one continuously repeats God's name as given by his/her guru. This simran, as Mataji termed it, should be done with one's attention centered behind closed eyes.
Coupled with this physical stillness and ceaseless repetition of God's name [simran practice], the next step is to contemplate the Light within. At first, Mataji pointed out, there will be only darkness but eventually Light will appear in the form of either small flashes or small star-like points. In any case, one should focus on the radiance, keeping one's simran intact and allowing the Light to draw the soul inward. The third and most important step, Mataji said, is to listen to the Sound that issues forth from the Light. It is this Internal Music which will numb the body and allow the consciousness to leave its ordinary dwelling. By riding this Current of Light and Sound, like a fish going upstream, the soul will be able to go back to its original home. On the journey within, however, the soul must be guided by a true master so as not to be detained in any of the lower illusory regions. According to Mataji, what near-death patients experience is only the beginning of a vast sojourn into great universes of Light, love and beauty.
Personally I was overcome with the profundity of Mataji's account. Although it seemed plausible, especially given the findings of near-death patients who have been resuscitated, the soul's journey in the beginning stages appeared too difficult. How can one sit so still, repeat only holy names and think of God constantly? “By falling in love,” Mataji answered serenely. “Because when one is truly in love nothing but the Beloved can enter one's mind. So the secret of Surat Shabd Yoga and of mysticism,” she goaded, “is not necessarily practice and more practice, but love. To be so devoted to one's Lord that nothing can stand in the way---this and nothing else is the truth of Sant Mat,” Mataji stressed….

My Interests

"Prophets speak when consciousness increases." For it is the ability to truly listen that gives birth to an awareness of a message, and an appreciation of a messenger. An Infinite God could never have a limited number of inspired words. There is also no missing element or trace mineral, once present in the water supply during the middle ages or earlier times but now gone, that once caused the appearance of prophets and saints. What was true then is true now. The same need that brought great souls into the world during past centuries is still with us. My experience and belief is that the age of prophets, apostles, masters or saints is still with us, that there is a living gnosis now.

Discover Words of Light and Love for the Spiritual Journey. Experience the Wonders of Inner Space, the Mysteries of "the Kingdom of the Heavens that are within you". Get inspired to develop your own daily meditation practice. The focus here is the Wisdom of Masters and Mystics. This Living School of Spirituality called Sant Mat is also known as: the Way of the Saints, Radhasoami (Radha Soami), and/or, The Path of the Masters. The meditation practice is called Surat Shabd Yoga, meaning: "the Union of the Soul with the Inner Light and Sound of God."

KEY WORDS: God -- The Ocean of Love and Compassion, Meditation, Sant Mat (Santmat), the Teachings of the Saints, Science of the Soul, Surat Shabd Yoga: the Soul's ability to see and hear spiritually: focusing your soul's Attention (Surat) upon the inner Light and Sound Current during contemplative meditation practice, merging into and becoming one with the Audible Life Stream -- the Tao, Logos, Word, Music of the Spheres, Shabda, Nada, Naam, Saunt-e Sarmad, Cosmic AUM, HU (HOO), Music of the Angels, the Song of the Creator.

You may also enjoy this site if you are interested in Comparative Religion: Universal Truth -- Common Threads, Gnosticism, Mysticism, Sacred Texts, Bhakti (Love and Devotion), all the Great Nirguna Bhakti Sant Poet Mystics of the East (Saints like: Kabir, Rumi, Nanak, the Ten Sikh Gurus, Mirabai, Namdev, Dadu, Ravidas, Param Sant Tulsi Sahib, Paltu, hundreds more!); also if you're curious about: Quanyin (Quan Yin), Shri Anandpur, Eastern Religions, Hinduism, Krishna -- Vashinava, Sikh, Buddhism, Sufi Poetry -- Sufism, Sacred Texts -- Inter-Faith Studies, The Nag Hammadi Library of Egypt, Dead Sea Scrolls, Mystic Christianity, Gospel of Thomas -- The Sayings of Jesus (Yeshua the Living One), Mandaean Psalms, Manichaean texts, Kabbalah, Ahimsa: Peace and Nonviolence, the Vegetarian Diet, Prayer, Astral Travel, Near-Death Experiences -- NDE's, Out-of-body or soul travel, Union with God, Gnostic Gospels, Lost Books of the Bible, Living Gnosis NOW! Contemplation, Union with God -- the Sacred Knowledge of the world scriptures and spiritual classics authored by the Friends of God -- the Saints and Mystics, East and West, throughout history.

This Living School of Spirituality -- the Way of Sages -- Santmat -- encompasses a set of ageless moral values, a belief in a Higher Power, and most importantly a methodology for realization of the Highest and the state of absolute Peace within one's own self. Incorporated in that methodology is an interior road map, as it were, of the various stages, spiritual landmarks, and relevant advice from a qualified adept for achieving the goal.

Santmat is not confined to the beliefs, rituals, and dogmas of any specific religions. Being universal in nature it embraces the Truths found in most of the world's sacred texts and religious traditions, but does not advocate any specific religion. Santmat emphasizes the universal thread running through all the various traditions.

The attainment of ultimate spiritual Peace and supreme Joy within oneself is the ultimate goal of Santmat as described by Maharishi Mehi and other great sages. Although this path is not content with meager goals, it is extremely easy to understand and practice. Progress is certain, although, for most, eager and persistent effort is required.

Introductory Meditation Instructions

These are the introductory meditation instructions taught by Master Kirpal Singh, for new people not yet formally initiated into the Mysteries of the Kingdom within (Surat Shabda Yoga meditation).

This is a great beginning, a good preparation and transition to Shabda Meditation. I am giving out this to all who come in contact with me, recommending it as a great way to begin meditating right now. NOTE: Meditation practice accompanies a life of Ahimsa: non-violence in thought, word, and deed. Be peaceful on the outside as well as within. "When you learn the methods for inner meditation, you should practice diligently. Moral rectitude is also very essential in this pursuit." (Sant Sevi Ji Paramahans Maharaj)

"There is Light within a person of Light, and it illuminates the entire cosmos." (Yeshua, Gospel of Saint Thomas)

"Meditation is the process of withdrawing the attention from the world outside, and focusing it at the seat of the soul in the body, behind and between the eyebrows. This point is known as the inner eye, third eye, the single eye, shiv netra, tisra til, or the divya chakshu. In order to withdraw our attention and focus it on this point, mind must be controlled and stilled.

"Sit in one pose, and move not your head, limbs or eyes. Sit straight but relaxed with no tension in the body below. Sit still, please. To be still does not mean moving!"

His arms sweep inward, hands contracting to the point between his eyes.

"Close your eyes as in sleep, and look sweetly, lovingly, intently into the middle of the darkness lying in front of you. You will see a dark veil. That which sees the dark veil within, without the help of your physical eyes, is the inner eye. Do not put any strain on your physical eyes, nor turn them upwards, for that will result in headache or heat. Pay no attention to the breathing process... let it go on naturally.

"There are two currents working in the body; one of motor-currents or prana or the vital-airs, and the other of surat, or attention, which gives us the sense of feeling. The Saints do not touch the prana currents which govern breathing, circulation of blood, growing of hair and nails. The pranic system of breath-control is the way of yogis and not that of the Saints. The Saints' way is to concentrate surat or attention at the single or third eye while mentally repeating the mantra of five charged names which act as an "open sesame" to the higher planes.

["Those who are initiated, repeat the five charged words, one by one, very slowly, mentally, internally, at intervals, so that your inner eye is not disturbed. Those who have not been initiated, just sit in sweet remembrance of God... repeating with the tongue of thought any name of God or Saint which you hold dear."

(For example: Ram, HU {pronounced "HOOOOO"}, AUM {pronounced "OOOMMM"}, Allah, Yeshua, Radhaswami {RAAA-DHAAAA-SWAAAA-MMMMMEEEEEEEEE}, or some other sacred name)

"As you look within, you will see a sky, or blue sky: If you look minutely into it, you will find it studded with stars, or you may see pinpoints of Light. If so, try to locate the big star out of them, and fix your whole attention on that. Then you may see the inner sun or moon. If so, focus all your attention into the middle; it will break into pieces, and you will cross it. Beyond you will see the radiant form of the Master or his Master... "

He continues with the esoteric instructions, until everyone is absorbed.

"...Become the eye itself. Go on looking constantly without a break.....Any effort on your part stands in the way; let yours be an effortless effort, and you will find that your soul will be withdrawn from the body....."

Remember, this is the Introductory Meditation, not the full practice learned at the time of Initiation. This is only the beginning.

Music:

Music of the Spheres -- Shabd Naam (No Batteries Required)

The Yoga of inner Sound is the most advanced practice of hearing, the highest art of listening. By being united with the Heavenly Music (Audible Life Stream, Shabd, Naam) --- the Inner Sound Current during meditation (Surat Shabd Yoga/Nada Yoga practice), focusing upon the Quintessential Sound or Sar Shabd, the ascending soul eventually attains the Soundless Sphere beyond all regions of Light and Sound, reaching the True State of Kaivalya: Oneness with the Supreme Being in the Pure Conscious Realm. The ultimate goal is to merge into the upper level of Kaivalya known as the Ocean of Love and Compassion, the Ultimate Reality of God in the Nirguna or Formless State, also described by some with terms such as Radhaswami (Lord of the Soul), Anami (The Nameless One) and Anadi Purush (Soundlessness).

Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj: "Begin meditation with internally chanting or repeating the Guru mantra incantation (the charged words given by a genuine Living Master at the time of Initiation). And then try to visualize the radiant form or image of the Satguru in the still darkness of the inner sky (with eyes closed). Follow that with focusing your attention at the seat of the soul within, i.e. at the Third Eye or the Inner Eye or the Til Dwaar, by making the two streams of consciousness in your two eyes converge in a Point.

"When the two currents of consciousness meet in a Point, Divine Light appears within. Then, practice Surat Shabd Yoga (Yoga of Divine Sound) i.e., try to shift your attention to listening to the Divine Sounds or myriads of melodies (Anahad Naad) ringing inside. Listening to the Divine Sound destroys all the perversions, agitations and fickleness of the mind.

"Ascending beyond or transcending myriads of sounds, try to identify and tune in to the Quintessential Unstruck Melody, called "Saar Shabd" or "Anaahat Naad" which alone is capable of taking you and merging you into oneness with the Supreme Lord; this is the ultimate deliverance, emancipation, welfare, or liberation.
