The Spurs

New England's Premier Western Swing Band

About Me

The Spurs formed in 1997, when Frankie Blandino (steel guitar), Johnny Sciascia (upright bass), Stan Kozlowski (drums), and Jerry Miller (guitar) recruited singer Allan Sheinfeld. Rich Dubois joined shortly afterward on fiddle. Dubbed a "roots-music supergroup" by Stuff@Night magazine, New England rockabilly and country fans knew these guys well from beloved bands such as the Crank-tones, the Country Bumpkins, Jack Smith's Rockabilly Planet, the Fathoms, the Tarbox Ramblers, and many others. The Spurs quickly became a sensation on the club scene playing western swing, honky tonky, and hillbilly boogie, and their CD, Go, Boy, Go! was released in 2000 on Nashville's Spinout label to unanimous rave reviews. The album made end-of-the-year Top Ten lists at both the Boston Phoenix (Carly Carioli) and online magazine Miles of Music (Stuart Munro). In 2001, the Boston Music Awards nominated The Spurs in the best country act category. But the band must be seen live to be fully appreciated. DJ Brian Sinclair of the long-running Hillbilly at Harvard radio show has called The Spurs "the best live act I've seen in 30 years of clubgoing." Providence's Timeout magazine claimed, "The Spurs knock those in the audience dead with an intoxicating mix of authentic western swing and country boogie tunes just this side of Bob Wills and Tennessee Ernie Ford....Quite simply, they kick honky tonk butt!" The band continues to play around the Boston area both at club appearances and private events. Stay tuned for upcoming gigs.
