CAROLE KING: "Locomotion"....Years ago, LITTLE EVA walked into our jewelry store, and we became friends instantly....Carole King wrote this song, and THIS is the greatest version of it I've ever heard!TOM JONES: his first American hit, IT'S NOT UNUSUAL....great song......the horns always made this song sail.........BUDDY MILES AND SANTANA: "Them Changes"....Can rock music get better than this?....I don't think so....we drummers would say that this song "DRIVES"!!!!!!CONWAY TWITTY: "Chief", to those of us that were lucky enough to work for or with him.....When he played Vegas for the first time in many years (1973), we took out an announcement in BILLBOARD MAGAZINE to wish him well..... We told him to "Break A Leg" and we said in our announcement that the HUGE success he had enjoyed during his amazing career was anything BUT "Make Believe".........Rest in peace, my friend, everyone misses you, still...........CELINE DION & FRANK SINATRA: "All The Way".....This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.......BO DIDDLEY... YOU GOTTA WATCH THIS!!!.....it's from the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Bo's career in the music business, and THIS song stopped the show.....all star musicians backed him for this performance, this song defines the spirit of Rock & R&B........listen........try to sit still.........if you can!!LITTLE RICHARD: "Lucille".....Richard Penniman wrote the book on boogie-woogie rock & roll (along with Jerry Lee), and I used to think that if he would only JUST sing, play piano, and perform, INSTEAD OF TALKING so damn much, he would get MUCH more recognition, particularly in his later years, than otherwise......he's an amazing talent........ENJOY!!!THE IKETTES: This "girl group" never broke out like it deserved to do......this song is called "Sweet Inspiration" and it's a great example of mid '60's R&B........When I see/hear performances like this, it takes me back to the excitement, energy, & pure de ole' electricity that was created, musically, in the '60's..........BB KING: "Why I Sing The Blues"......great song; this is an example of why BB is one of the first "cross-over" artists: he's blues, he's R&B, he's rock & roll, he's everything......PUSSYCAT DOLLS: Don't Cha.......Who said the recent music of today isn't as good as the music of yesterday.........this is great R&B, & Nicole Sherzinger's voice is as good as, if not better than, the great female singers of the R&B/Soul era......great melody, great feel, this song stuck in people's heads for a long time.....THE STAPLE SINGERS: Respect Yourself......This song ROCKS, and, the meaning behind it is priceless.....if you like to boogie, AND be touched, then get ready, 'cause you're gonna love this.........Curtis Mayfield: "It's Alright".....Founder of The Impressions, and, one of the most distinctive voices in R&B music......STEVE WINWOOND: "Gimme Some Lovin".....one of my favorite party songs......I hope you enjoy this!........DUSTY SPRINGFIELD: "All I See is You".....this has always been one of my favorite songs........I guess to me, when two people are in love, the title of this song is what they should feel for each other......very romantic.....very powerful, passionate song.....RIP, Dusty, thanks for the tunes............BUDDY & STACEY, in 1965, with JIMI HENDRIX on lead guitar!: "Shotgun"........THIS is one of the coolest things I've found in a long time.....these guys were obviously influenced by Jackie Wilson, Al "TNT" Braggs, James Brown, The Miracles, Ike & Tina and their band, & Marvin Gaye among several others........THIS is the ultimate performance style of the mid '60's.......I hope you enjoy it as much I do.......BOBBY "BLUE" BLAND: "Turn On Your Lovelight"....have you ever heard of THIS?....It's one of the benchmark R&B songs of the early '60's; it helped shape music with "SOUL" for years & years to come.....take a listen.....it'll get you movin'.......ALL-STAR JAM: All I can say is this: GOD, please don't EVER take this off YOUTUBE.......THIS is what a great JAM is all about..........Tina Turner with the IKETTES: "The Review" was creating this kind of excitement long before the lavishly produced shows of today.....a typical introduction to TINA and the girls.......young 'uns, watch, listen, & LEARN!!!!MAXINE BROWN: Back in the day when R&B was really developing & evolving, there were a few artists like Ms Brown that really took the genre to the next level....this song, "OH NO NOT MY BABY" really touched everyone in a deeper, more soulful way......I hope you enjoy this.....Martha & The Vandellas: HEAT WAVE.....I had "Dancin' In The Street" up for a long time, but THIS song is a reminder that Miss Martha and the ladies had LOTS of smash hits, that were smokin'............AL WILSON: "I Won't Last A Day Without You"......This version of this beautiful song has always made me sentimental about various experiences I've had in my lifetime......Rest in peace, Mr. Wilson, you, and your stunning voice, will be missed...........THE TEMPTATIONS: "Treat Her Like A Lady"....What a great song.....No wonder that THE TEMPS were an American institution!......David Ruffin: "Statue Of A Fool".....have you ever heard this?.....isn't the amount of superb material amazing, particularly when one considers that an artist of David Ruffin's stature had so many hits: there were GREAT songs that never even barely surfaced!......Enjoy........The Fifth Dimension: WEDDING BELL BLUES....Marilyn McCoo, to me, has always been one of the most beautiful women in the world, and her voice is spectacular....this wistful song was a hit in 1969, and one of their most popular songs.........SOLOMON BURKE: "Down In The Valley".....ANOTHER performance that reminds all of us that they just don't make music like this any more!!!!.........Knock yourself out.....this is cool..........Top Secret Drum Corps: THIS is what rudimental drumming has evolved into......amazing.......next year, I'll be celebrating my 50th year as a drummer (now strictly a "moth ball musician"), and it feels great to see this wonderful art-form reach the level it's reached!Rattlesnake Annie: "On The Road Again"....Annie has a gorgeous voice; she's a huge star in Europe; an American legend.....if you like this performance, you should hear her ballads......one of the most soothing voices I've ever heard........ANNIE, YOU ROCK!!!!!Elvis: "HURT".........the old Timi Yuro song.....when Elvis performed this song, his voice was especially spectacular.....this is from his last live performance, and like Charlie Hodge said many times, towards the end of Elvis' life, "his magnificent voice never failed him".....DON HO: "I'll Remember You"......I had to be dragged to see Don Ho in Honolulu many years ago.....I am so glad that I went, because it was one of the greatest live performances I have ever attended.....just listen to the tone & timbre of his voice..........unbelievable.......Bill Evans: "Nardis"....It's been said that Bill Evans and McCoy Tyner are, arguably, the two most influential jazz pianists of the 20th Century.....This song is so captivating that, if you like jazz, it will almost hypnotize you.....If you aren't familiar with this kind of music, I urge you to give it a try......... WALTER JACKSON: "It's An Uphill Climb To The Bottom": Try THIS song out; not many people have heard of it, BUT, it's stunning........Please let me know how you like it...... BO DIDDLEY: Rest In Peace, Mr. Bo, we will never, ever forget you..........BROOK BENTON: "Rainy Night In Georgia"......on a very personal note: I met Brook Benton when I was 15 years old; he was amazingly gracious and he was what could be described as an "elegant man"....to this very day, IF it's correct that we are all shaped by our environment, life experiences and "elders", I truly believe that the reason I don't have a predjudiced bone in my body is because of the way my parents raised me, AND, that encounter with Mr Brook Benton......finally, just when I think that I've put too many videos on my page, I find just ONE more I just gotta include......besides, many of YOU have messaged me saying you love my choices......thanks very much for that, I'll keep on keepin' on.... CHUCK BERRY: "Let It Rock".....One of the drivin'-est, baddest, craziest cats there ever was....a true founder of ROCK......wow, it would've been a blast to play in HIS band......LILLIAN GARCIA.....she's the ring announcer for WWE, and I got to sit 3 feet away from her at the WWE "Raw" Monday night matches in Oklahoma City 6/30/08 (thanks to my friend, Jim Shank, Audio/Video Production Manager for WWE; THANK YOU, Jim!!).....wow, I'm crushin'........what guy wouldn't be??!!........THE GREAT JOE MORELLO: My childhood idol; when I grew up, I got to be friends with him....how cool is that!!.....in my opinion, the greatest drummer that has ever lived.....This is the most famous JAZZ song ever recorded, "Take Five"......about 2 minutes into this, you'll see & hear one of the greatest drum solos ever recorded..... Among other things, watch Joe's left hand, listen to Joe's lightning fast right foot, and remember: this is all improvised, all performed in 5/4 time..... HOW on earth does he keep his place, stay in 5, & be so imaginative all at the same time?....By the time the most evolved version of this solo was performed, in Carnegie Hall in February of 1963, (hear it in the DAVE BRUBECK at CARNEGIE HALL cd), this solo baffled the greatest players of then, and even of today........Whew...he was, and IS, phenomenal.......Smokey Robinson & The Miracles: "Ooh, Baby, Baby".....the FIRST slow jam.......THIS is where it all started......THE BEACH BOYS: "Darlin".....Brian Wilson wrote this for THREE DOG NIGHT, they both recorded it; to me, this song is one of Brian's best.......LITTLE MILTON: "The Blues Is Alright!"....Lonnie Mack invited me to a benefit performance at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, Florida in the early '90's, & I'll never forget that night.....right after Lonnie performed "Satisfy Suzy", Little Milton did this song....it knocked me out.....can an "anthem" to "boogie blues" be any better than this?.....enjoy!!......WILD CHERRY: "Play That Funky Music"....OMG....more boggie music.......don't even try to sit still......you won't be able to.....Bob Parissi and his guys really knew how to tear the house down....when this song won a Grammy, Cher,Captain & Tenille, and other big names of that time got up and danced in the aisles....Bob's voice paved the way for a style of singing that, in my opinion, even influenced Kid Rock's sound......Mickey Gilly (Jerry Lee Lewis's cousin): "That's All That Matter To Me".....Try this out for size; gorgeous, just gorgeous.......The O'Jays: "Used To Be My Girl".....This song, no matter what mood you're in, will put a smile on your face....I love this kind of material....The O'Jays ROCK!.....JULIE LONDON: "I'm Coming Back To You"....My absolute favorite song of the '60's, and I'll bet anything you've never heard of it......she was once described as having " only a thimble full of a voice", and I always thought this song was the epitome of '60's ballad/pop music......Please let me know if you like this.........BOYZ II MEN & MARIAH CAREY: "One Sweet Day".....It's hard to believe that this song is now 12 years old....I'll never forget the day that Nate Morris walked into our store with his driver; I couldn't believe it....This song is drop dead gorgeous..........Jimmy Soul: "If You Wanna Be Happy (Make An Ugly Woman Your Wife)"......The year was 1963..... TOM JONES: "You Can Leave Your Hat On".....Which version is better, Tom Jones', or Joe Cockers'?....whatever, both these guys are slammin' on this grinding, soulful masterpiece!!!! THE FUNK BROTHERS & THE ANDANTES....There were THREE reasons why "The Motown Sound" was so successful, and they ALL played equally important roles: The "lead artists", THE FUNK BROTHERS, and THE ANDANTES....."The Funk Brothers" was an amazingly accomplished group of highly talented musicians that PLAYED THE MUSIC, and "The Andantes" sang MANY back up vocals on MANY of the major hits........THE FUNKS & THE ANDANTES are STARS, JUST LIKE THE LEAD ARTISTS!!!!!!!!!!! THREE DOG NIGHT: "Darlin'"......This is such a cool song.....A Brian Wilson melody at its best.......( I know I've got the Beach Boys version of this song up, too, but, whatever: this song deserves to be played TWICE, in my humble opinion!)Barbara Mason: "Yes, I'm Ready".....Like Smokey's "Ooh, Baby, Baby", this song is one of the first slow jams; these songs paved the way for the next 40+ years for this genre of music.......
