Well, I got really into Tom Petty when I was in 4th grade. Then a friend of my Dad played me a Dead Kennedys tape & that really interested me. When I was twelve I walked the better part of a mile to a local record store to buy a Misfits tape which sadly he didn't have. He did have it on vinyl, though. Once I submitted my parents to listening to my new record on the living room stereo, they promtly bought me my own turntable. This was about 1990. Since then the only thing I've managed to accomplish in life is accrueing thousands of slabs of vinyl stuffed into cardboard jackets. These days I work in a used record store & DJ at bars every weekend, so when someone asks me what kind of music I like to listen to, I seriously have no idea.
