About Me

Champ Holland -Bassist, Composer, Producer, Vocalist and Multi-instrumentalist. A Native of Southern California. Champ grew up in Los Angeles. Influenced by the legendary bassist Bootsy Collins", Champ was well on his way through his musical journey at the age of 14. However through the eyes of his Father non Christian music was forbidden. "So I kept quiet about my plan to become a musician and tour the world and chase girls. (LOL) A self taught musician he learned very quickly on how to adapt to his instrument through rigorous training and performing in every musical genre possible. Shortly after, his cousin, who was a staff writer for hit producer "Leon Sylvers", started to use him on recording session daily for such artist as The "Whispers", Shalamar, Krystol and many others. At that point Champ decided to enroll into "Musicians Institute of Technology. "I was pretty much tired of not knowing how to read, and at times it was very frustrating". Upon enrollment at Musicians Institute of Technology Champ met his bass mentor and friend "Yogi Musgrove"(Austin Texas). Yogi and Champ, the bass buddies, hit it off right away and that’s when he discovered his voice. After graduating he started to work with some of L.A’s finest musicians and producers. Champ has a very diverse background, ranging from Funk, R&B, Pop, Rock, Smooth Jazz, Blues, Hip-hop, and Neo-Soul. "I started out playing bass, and then I started writing songs and having the final word on the production which gave me the role of a producer. I owe it all to one person who taught me how to produce and that’s my best friend and brother from another mother, Chuckii Booker. Chuckii taught me how to cut tracks without excuses. There would times I would be at every session for two, three days at a time watching his every move and playing on some of those sessions as well.. The next cat was Leon Sylvers who in my book created the LA. Sound, the Solar Record days. Wow! Babyface, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis Moonlighting at "Sound Masters"…those were the days. It’s been a true blessing to have been around those cats in the beginning stages of my career"... I later added keyboards, drum programming and the talkbox to my arsenal; these are just tools to help me create. My first love is the Bass. Period!!!Champ’s work has included recordings, performances with, Dean James, Brent Jones, Fox Entertainment, Felisa Marisol, Perri, Ruth Brown, Randy Crawford, Mimi Noriko, Chuckii Booker, Keith Crouch, Kenneth Crouch, Newport, Charlie Wilson, Masa Kushamoto and many others both in television and film. Currently Champ is in the studio composing music for film and local artist and for his soon to be released CD titled "The Love Inside" which features, Chuckii Booker, Keith Crouch, Perri, Kenneth Crouch, Eddie "Killer" Miller, and vocalist Tiara Lemacks, just to name a few.
