During his not too long yet career, DJ Matter has already made a racket in the infamous Russian enclave, also known as Kaliningrad (the most western part of the country). Just to mention his vital role in forming first local pirate radio station in far 2003 -- ElectroStation , which later transformed into all-purpose non-commercial media-project (as well as quite commercial promo-group).
Matter has been loving drum&bass from the cradle, and he started spinning it immediately after realizing the named fact in a bit elder age. So far, he has played at the majority of Kaliningrad’s clubs and venues, several times co-headlined parties, organized at the legendary St. Petersburg’s "Tunnel" club. Has shared the stage with the likes of Pendulum, John B, Noisia, Distorted Minds, TeeBee, Black Sun Empire, N.Phect, Raiden, Mutated Forms, Subwave, Paul B, Sunchase and others. Keeps up contacts with djs and producers all around the world. In fact, DJ Matter is the only serious representative of the drum&bass scene in Kaliningrad district, where it started getting out from the underground only recently.
As for his music tastes, DJ Matter mainly prefers heavy nu-skool jump-up, wobble-step -- though doesn’t like to be attached to only one genre. In the one’s mixes, he combines a huge variety of drum’n’bass styles -- from neuro stuff to chopped drumfunk -- always trying to make his sets as creative and unexpected for the listeners, as possible.
THE BROKEN COMMUNISTIC BEATS
In the second half of 2006, DJ Matter and his friend and already well-known all over the world producer Mars teamed up to make a national break-through -- becoming the first djs representing Russia on the largest breaks internet radio station, NSB Radio . But that’s not all -- the two guys went further, deciding to break the settled visions of djing. You’d say that mixing nuskool breaks and drum&bass is impossible, or at least stupid? There’s nothing impossible, and nothing can be more stupid than stereotypes -- these Russian comrades would tell you.
Two different rhythms, connected by the broken beat, and every possible musical vibe -- all mixed up and flavoured by tight scratching. The coctail is burning, be warned.
