Change and innovation are two adjectives that work in unison to create something new.In the mid nineties, this is exactly what Junior O set out to do. As a producer, he was responsible for creating a new sound known as ghetto tech funk that was equal parts techno, house, different and simply funky. This sound attributed much to his background and his upbringing, being born and raised in NYC to Colombian parents. Though he was able to create a sound that was fresh and new, his diverse output of music attested to his dedication to an array of sounds and influences as well as his travels. Hence his productions being as diverse as the labels they were released on: Tribal with "Cafe Con Leche" (AV8/BMG), hard house with "Story of O" (Narcotic/Edel), the Techno spoken word of "I Am The Vibe" (GLOW UK) to his soulful vocal anthem "2 Much Happened" (R-Senal/Strictly Rhythm) and the very trippy "Shad-O-man" (Yoshitoshi). In the same way that he rose through the ranks of top producers, he quickly established a reputation as a DJ.
It was in NYC playing marathon sets, deejaying at the famed Cafe Con Leche, sharing nights with DJ's such as David Morales and Little Louie Vega that he truly honed his craft. Additionally, he rotated many of New York and Miamis premiere nightclubs, most noticeably at Roxy, Tunnel, Sound Factory Bar, Palladium, Sound Factory, Twilo and Salvation. With a signature wild-style of rocking the party at all costs, his reputation as a top notch DJ included international residencies at D club in Switzerland, Roxy Club in Prague and Poland. His determination to instantly innovate via mixing style and technique continue to take him throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America.
Having been commissioned over the years as a sound designer for companies like video game maker Kanami, Junior O has continued to innovate as an artist. Back with a new perspective on life, music, and the scene he helped to groom and shape, it is not surprising to find out he is highly regarded by his peers.
