About Me

Proveta, Arismar & Boccato Brazilian TRIO

ÁguaMarinha Trio is a meeting of some of the finest Brazilian musicians today. Nailor Proveta (saxophone/clarinet) leader of the acclaimed and two time Grammy-nominated "Banda Mantiqueira"; Multi-instrumentalist and compopser Arismar do Espírito Santo, voted as one of the best guitar players in Brazil by Guitar Player Magazine; percussionist Rogerio Boccato, recently featured on Kenny Garrett's 2006 Grammy-nominated album, and a visiting professor in the jazz department of The Hartt School of Music (Univ. of Hartford).
Together, Proveta, Arismar and Rogerio play music rooted in the "Choro", a traditional Brazilian style that originated at the end of the 19th century. With lots of space for creativity and improvisation, the TRIO's modern take on Choro is loose and open, surprising and full of unusual twists and turns and yet the music never loses the infectious groove. A unique and exciting direction in jazz and world music!
The "água-marinha" is certainly the most well-known of the Brazilian precious stones. Its colors comprises all the spectrum of the blue color, reflecting the tonalities found in the sea throughout the immense Brazilian coastline.
Nailor Proveta - Clarinet/ Alto Saxophone
Proveta has a high place among the best musicians of Brazil. He learned the musical notes before he could write the letters of the alphabet, and at 6 years of age, he was already playing the clarinet.
He is the leader and arranger of the great "Banda Mantiqueira", formed in 1991 and nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Performance in 1998 and again in 2006. Proveta has been playing with the best artists in Brazil - Milton Nascimento, Gal Costa, Edu Lobo, Guinga, Moacir Santos, Joyce, Caetano Veloso, Jane Duboc, Rosa Pasos, and also with international artists, such as Joe Williams, Anita O'Day, Bobby Short, Benny Carter, Natalie Cole, Ray Conniff, Sadao Watanabe, among others.
Also working intensively in recording studios as a player and arranger, he has participated in hundreds of recordings of the most important Brazilians artists. Being at the same time intense, simple, deep, full of energy, always inspired, and inspiring others, Proveta is, with no doubt, one of the most interesting musicians of Brazil and of the world.
Arismar do Espírito Santo - 7 String Guitar/ Guitar
An intuitive, self-taught multi-instrument musician, Arismar is known by the amazing way how he plays the guitar, the bass, the drums and the piano. His three CDs as a leader, “Foto do Satélite” (2006) “Estação Brasil” (2003) and “Arismar do Espírito Santo: 10 anos” (1994) - all through the label "Maritaca" - show his versatility as a musician and composer. Hermeto Pascoal, with whom Arismar has been playing on and off over the last two decades, considers him as one of the best bass players of our days.
