Church Musick is Gigio’s follow up album to his 2007 release, Something Wicked This Way Comes. Gigio’s constantly crafting his skills as an artist, interpreting the world around him and spewing it all into lyric. With Church Musick, we find the 20 year old emcee embracing his soulful side over funky beats (provided by co-conspirator, Dren Doh), and if it wasn’t for all the cuss words, Church Musick could actually pass off as, well, church music! All the while, we’ll also hear a cockiness in the young emcee’s voice, as he recognizes the fashion fads and lackluster “bring it back to the golden age†songs other up-and-coming hip hop artists are falling victim to. And yet with the cockiness in mind, we’ll hear Gigio begin to recognize his place in hip hop culture and the responsibility that comes along with contributing to the art. Church Musick is raw, funky, racy, thought-provoking, funny, in-your-face, hard shit that hip hop is all about.
