The word ..feelings,.. is repeated frequently when Tony Gaines is discussing his music, and feelings are exactly what his lyrics invoke in those listening. His lyrics are a reflection of his truth, his life. There are no preconceived ideas; Gaines raps from his heart with meaningful, thought- provoking lyrics based on true and at times raw emotion. He connects his life with the lives of his audience and if you aren..t from where he..s from he..ll take you there with his words. With those words he has the uncanny ability to bring an understanding of life..s struggles to outsiders as well as maintaining relevance to his hardcore followers. The real shit, that..s what ..he..s.. on! With unrivaled skills, Gaines has a unique and natural ability to create beats, compose music, write thought- provoking lyrics and provide a ..hook.. ya can bob your head to. He does ..it for the L.O.V.E... and he is truly the whole package.
In addition to his musical talents Gaines has mastered managing the processes of production from start to finish. As a producer his style is admirable. Each project he takes on is as important as the last. He attacks production for his clients with the same determination and professionalism that he would if he were producing his own material. His ability to grow, develop and redefine when necessary, allows him to remain flexible and approach everything with an open mind. ..It is what it is and it..s all good...
Though most of his previous endeavors have focused on producing and arranging for other artists Gaines has just wrapped up writing and producing his first solo project, fittingly titled, The Tony Gaines Project. It was written for Gaines by Gaines but it makes clear that it is indeed time for a change in the rap game and Gaines is just what the doctor ordered for the ..makeover... In his solo debut, he manages to eloquently put the rap in rhapsody by bringing words to life and life to words. This CD is being brought to the public because it is so on point that it demands to be heard.
Anthony Wisdom (..Tone..) was born on April 30, 1977 in Lawrence Kansas (L.K.) The product of a broken home Tony lived with his mother in L.K. for most of his life. The one exception was a brief stint in Seattle where he lived with his Father. Out of love, respect and acknowledgment ..Tone.. has chosen to use his father..s last name to introduce and represent himself in the public arena. Without further ado, allow me to professionally introduce, Tony Gaines.
Gaines has been rapping and producing for approximately twelve years. His professional producing endeavors began in 1995 when he and his associates The Mob Town Hustlers created the first independent hip/hop label in Lawrence. WAITT (We..re All In This Together) Records unknowingly pioneered and led the way for other local labels to develop. Unfortunately as many up and coming artists quickly learn in this industry, many promises are made to be broken. WAITT Records took a risk and invested money with what turned out to be a shady character and regrettably a lesson learned led to the end of WAITT Records. Gaines.. ..ride it till the wheels fall off.. mentality left him with only one option, and that was simply to ..just carry on... Shortly after the end of WAITT Records, fate stepped in. Gaines was able to acquire musical equipment that he used to educate himself on the tools of his trade.
In 1999 Gaines was approached by Keith Loneker and William ..The Weirdo.. Wilson who had a studio and record label (5150) in Lawrence. The two asked him to assist in production of an upcoming album for local standout rap group, Bombsquad. Shortly thereafter, Gaines joined 5150 Mental Productions, as a fulltime producer, and together the three entrepreneurs established the first totally urban oriented music recording and production studio on Massachusetts (Mass.) Street in Downtown Lawrence. 5150 blew up on the local and KC Metro scene producing, collaborating and even featuring some of their own artists on projects for acts such as; Bombsquad, TechN9ne, XDash, Rich The Factor, Boy Big.. To 5150..s credit, mainstream artists such as Shock G, a.k.a. Humpty Hump from the rap group The Digital Underground, recorded in the Mass. Street studio as well as Bay area rap superstars Luni Coleone, and Yuk Mouth from The Luniz. Eventually 5150 branched out to include R&B, as well as Pop artists in its production repertoire. Total production from recording to release was completed on roughly seven albums during Gaines.. time at 5150 with his beats and lyrics being featured on various albums throughout the Lawrence, and Kansas City Metro area.
When Jason Whitlock, a sportswriter for the Kansas City Star and sometimes sports reporter on ESPN commissioned 5150 to produce all the music for his radio show the opportunity allowed 5150 to reach a larger more mainstream audience and aided in its being recognized as a legitimate fixture in the rap hip/hop production industry..so much so that the team at 5150 was asked to create fight songs for the Kansas City Royals baseball team and the University of Missouri..s basketball team.
Eventually Gaines, Wilson and Loneker parted ways and Tone headed to New York where he was fortunate enough to collaborate with Raekwon (Wu Tang Clan). This trip was an enormous confidence builder for Gaines and drove him to continue doing what he does best, putting the ..perfect verse with the perfect beat.. in order to attain his position in the rap hip/hop industry.
In the final analysis, The Tony Gaines Project is about real life. It..s about people and feelings, the risks and rewards, trials and tribulations and what can be accomplished when you play the hand your dealt and work it to make things happen. While production has been Tone..s main focus for many years his debut CD combines his talents making this a complete representation of his rapping, and producing abilities. The bottom line for Gaines has been, is, and always will be, ..Everything is Everything...You can check out some of my other production at these spots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!http://www.myspace.com/richt
