srr06-1 collected animals volume IIIt all began when me and Mike Tanner started Plinth back in the late 90's. Following sending a tape of what was to be our first version of the "wintersongs ep" to Stephen Pastel of Geographic Records, we were asked for our track "Bracken" to be included on the Geogrpahic Records compilation record "You don''t need darkness to do what you think is right". Following this, we continued to make music, and self released the "wintersongs ep". From here Mike and I continued to make music but increasingly found it hard to make free time inbetween jobs and life in genral to make the music we wanted to. Not to mention that a passion for the PS2 game Pro Evolution Soccer, that pretty much took over every recording session we managed to arrange and ended up with us playing the game into the early hours without hardly recording a single note! Music was still running like a drug through our veins though, and Mike continues to make music under the guise of "Plinth" but mainly as a solo artist. I decided to take on a different name and decided to call my project "Toy Piano Fanfare". I started by making songs on my own using a range of instruments and recording them on my old tascam 246 four track (which had taken a battering during the plinth years). I had a chance email from a great guy called Bryan Doring who lives in NYC, after a chance meeting on the Domino records forum. We exchanged tracks and musical ideas and struck up a kinda musical penpal friendship. This led us to recording the "three little stones ep" together between 2005 and 2006. Bryan also brought in a couple of friends to add additionals to some of the songs and our 4 track ep was completed. I now still record under the name of Toy Piano Fanfare and am currently working on new material. Please feel free to contact me should you wish to collaborate. Also check out Plinth on my space for some real good tunes. There is talk of maybe an old plinth reunion where Mike and I will play dualing laptops and recreate some old plinth songs, and maybe something new. Please enjoy my music and be sure to check out my friends and collaborators, especially the Dorset Paeans Collective, and the mighty Alias Pail.
