Gregory Agid first took up the clarinet at the age of
nine in the Hawaii public school system, where he learned
traditional band music. Three years later he was introduced
to jazz when his family moved to New Orleans,
Louisiana. There he began studying with musical legends such as
Alvin Batiste, Edward "Kidd" Jordan, Marlon Jordan, Kent Jordan,
Herman Jackson, and Clyde Kerr Jr. During high school, Gregory
was accepted into the world renowned arts high school,The New
Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), whose alumni
include many of todays most influencial musicians such as
Wynton Marsalis, Brandford Marsalis, and Nicholas Payton. Under
the direction of Michael Pellera, Bryce Winston and Alvin
Batiste, Gregory became a dedicated student of modern jazz
technique and philosophy. In January of 2005 Gregory was given a
grant to study with clarinet master Eddie Daniels in Santa Fe,
New Mexico. Gregory has also studied on and off
with Victor Goines, the current chair of the jazz department of
Juilliard. These experiences cemented Gregory’s
intense desire to pursue jazz on the clarinet. Currently,
Gregory is a rising junior at Loyola University
in New Orleans on a full music scholarship as a music industry
major. In addition to clarinet, Gregory also has a unique
voice on the Tenor and Soprano Saxophones.
