Nyeemah was blessed to be surrounded by a community of talented family members and friends. Musicians, naturalists, community active artists, dance and movement artists, athletic competitors, environmentalists, visual, vocal, technical and urban artists, etc. It seems natural to her flow that she shares what has been shared with her.
Nyeemah started studying music at the age of eight. Flute and guitar were her instruments of choice.
She remembers getting together with other percussionists and musicians at their homes and local parks and rehearsing with her first group, a latin jazz band where at thirteen years old she was the youngest member.
Nyeemah has been a personal trainer and body building, sculpting and power lifting intructor for thirteen years, and a dance and movement instructor for as long as she can remember. Everything seemed so natural...she thinks because her mom moves in such a dynamic way. Her mother and father are wonderful instructors in the visual, technical and performing arts, and very active in the community. Nyeemah's mom also has a wonderful singing voice and still composes, arranges and plays piano.
"This music, these words are from my soul, my spirit. They are free forms of expression that are healing for me - an amalgamation of lyrics, tones, and energies creating an atmosphere that promotes power, love, growth and balance. I dont have a specific style; rather my music is a blend of elements that touch on a universal language from spoken word to driving afro-cuban percussion to Tibetan chants, jazz, blues, hip hop, and calming ethereal sounds. I play and sing the songs that move me. I compose my music using live instruments, tracks, my voice and of course my lyrics. My intention is to spread the healing, spread the bliss, spread love.
