Band Members: To date, Broke & Hungry Records has issued five critically acclaimed CDs from some of Mississippi's great unsung blues figures.Jimmy "Duck" Holmes of Bentonia, Mississippi has recorded two outstanding records for B&H. His debut CD, Back to Bentonia, netted three Living Blues Awards in 2007 including Best Debut and Best Traditional/Acoustic CD. His sophomore CD, Done Got Tired of Tryin', was nominated for a Blues Music Award and was listed as one of the Top 10 Blues CDs of 2007 on the National Public Radio Web site (npr.org).Hill country bluesman Odell Harris also recorded a wild and wooly CD for Broke & Hungry Records. Titled Searching for Odell Harris, in reference to the artist's legendary elusiveness, the CD netted huge raves upon its release and landed on several "Best of 2006" lists.Clarksdale blues veterans Terry "Big T" Williams and Wesley "Junebug" Jefferson came together to wax Meet Me in the Cotton Field for Broke & Hungry Records. Released in 2007, the record was described by Living Blues Magazine as, "so intense, so ecstatic and doom-laden, that it's well-nigh indescribable."Most recently, Broke & Hungry released The World Must Never Know, a CD by a 78-year-old Delta bluesman dubbed the Mississippi Marvel. Due to the objections his church has toward blues music, the artist asked B&H to obscure his true identity. So while his pseudonym may not be real, everything else about this wild, raw record is as real as it gets. Blues Bytes hails it as "a stunning release from yet another never-before-recorded bluesman from the Mississippi Delta."This fall, Broke & Hungry Records, in partnership with Cat Head Presents and Mudpuppy Recordings, will release a feature-length documentary titled M for Mississippi: A Road Trip through the Birthplace of the Blues. The movie will feature interviews and performances from a dozen of the best down home blues artists from Mississippi.
