I've always been very honest with the audience. I let them know I have no idea what I'm doing. They're not watching something that has been rehearsed five times."

Frequently asked questions:
Q: Whats the biggest mistake you've ever made with regards to the show?
A: The biggest mistake I've ever made can be summed up in three words: Audience Donut Jenga.
Q: Do you talk with your guests before a show?
A: I say, "Hi. Are you OK? Anything you're frightened of? Anything you don't really want to talk about?"
Q: Do you have a talk-show idol?
A: I have more than one. Johnny Carson, of course. David Letterman, again I would say of course. And Regis Philbin. He's good at talking when there's nothing worth talking about.
Q: When you interview guests, the conversation seems off the top of your head.
A: I like to keep it easy. If it's easy, it's good. People who are new to talk shows think they haven't done a damn thing, then find out they talked for six minutes.
