Steven Forrest, Astrologer

About Me

I'm a professional astrologer. I've written a lot of books about it - The Inner Sky, The Changing Sky, The Book of Pluto, Skymates 1 + 2, Measuring The Night 1+ 2, and a semi-astrological murder mystery called Stalking Anubis. I've basically made my living, post-college, doing astro readings for people. I live in Chapel Hill NC with my second wife, Jodie. We've been together for 25 years now, wow. No kids -- just two really lucky cats. She's a novelist - she wrote a trilogy of Viking/Elves historical fantasies called "The Rhymer and The Ravens." We've done rock operas based on them -- we've just finished performing the second one at this point -- "The Elves' Prophecy." Amazon (and CD Baby) carry a CD of it, along with our books. I wrote the music. Jodie played bass. Scotty Young played drums, and Rhiannon Jones from Wales sang and played the fiddle. Rhiannon and I did a tune for a Welsh BBC program a couple years too -- "Ystradgynlais." That was my career high point as a musician -- pretty pitiful, huh? But I have fun. Music balances my cerebral/emotional astrological life, which is really my focus. We're in the middle of building a house in Borrego Springs, out in the California desert not too far from Joshua Tree -- that landscape has become a big love. I teach two groups of astrological Apprentices in California, which pretty much makes it my second home -- soon, we hope that will be literal, at least part time. I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

My Interests

Astrology, astronomy, music, reading, hiking in the Anza-Borrego desert, photography

I'd like to meet:

Bill Janis of Big Helium Entertainment--what a guy! Plus Van Morrison, and Daniel Lanois. And the Dalai Lama.

Music:

Sting, Van Morrison, Loreena McKennitt, Daniel Lanois, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel -- and I love a blues guy named Scott Ainslie. He says, he's "famous, but not too many people know that about him."

Movies:

Lord of the Rings, Gandhi, Fellini's stuff, Jim Jarmusch's stuff, Almodovar's stuff. Robert Downey Jr is magnificent in anything. So is Trudie Styler.

Television:

I got rid of my television over twenty years ago, and I only miss it occasionally. TV is great - but when you think of what might have happened with your life in the time you spend watching it, you wake up to the costs.

Books:

Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Robert Parker, Umberto Eco, Dennis Lehane, Sue Grafton, C.J. Cherryh, Patrick O'Brian, Anne Perry -- yes, yes, yes. The best use ever made of the English language however was J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

Heroes:

Sting & Trudie, Nelson Mandela, The Dalai Lama, Ram Dass, Carlos Casteneda, Bill Janis

Pluto's Demotion

I've just gotten back from a visit to Maine to see my mother. I see that while I was gone the International Astronomical Union took advantage of my absence and demoted Pluto to a dwarf planet, while e...

Our land in Borrego Springs

This is the 1.3 acres of paradise for which I am working too hard! But we love it and want to build a strawbale house there, and eventually move there a few years from now....
