About Me

Surprise me. In a pleasant fashion. You'll be my favorite thing.
Culture is the biology of ideas. Musicians and artists are just documenting what's happening in any given moment, and reflecting back what they see and hear. It all gets thrown in the pot~ the nuances in language and humor and style that you pick up depending on when and where you happened to be located. Location is really key. Landscapes are key, and I think that's a huge part of how cultural subtleties wind up happening. Architecture is based around it, and I think it affects people's moods and modes of operating more than is immediately obvious. You can feel it in someone if they grew up where it was always cold. Likewise, you can feel it if somebody grew up in the hot, wet South. Or the West. The West will always be wilderness, it can't ever really be conquered or tamed. It exists just on the edge of reality and completely wide-open possibility.
Completely in love with the mountains...
...secretly Southern.
A schuzzy affair. Late to everything~ I hate to wait. Currently hot for Japanese pagodas. ..
...and the desert. still.
wherever I want to go on vacation, I just paint. It's a pretty sweet deal.

My Interests

Art. Music. Driving. Coffee. Culture. Red wine. DUDE, Astrology. The city. The mountains. Trees. Plants. History. Paying attention. Thinking the exact same thing at the same time. Architecture. People. Making crusty old men smile. Street markets. Truthiness. Dinner parties. Satsuma. The South. Conversation. Airports. Mystery. And then solving it.

I'd like to meet:

Vigilantes of the More Interesting Virtues. ..

Music:

is as imperative as breathing. I'll tell you what's rocking my socks these days. The Black Keys and Wilco. I freaking love boys who can talk with their guitars. Also, old-school smutty rap has been hitting the spot. A Tribe Called Quest is fabulous. Then, there's some old standard favorites still~ I love listening to drum and bass or atmospheric ambient music, dancing ferociously and painting. Still love Pink Martini, St. Germaine, LTJ Bukem, Tycho, Chemical Brothers~ and yes, Kitaro. Lots of Bjork is always the right idea. And, as always, listen to Joni. I'll be impressed and immediately want to talk to you more.

Movies:

the Sword in the Stone, 300. That's all I need.

but really also, my favorite movie of all time is the Chipmunk Adventure. You just can't go wrong. Character movies are really important too, like Lost in Translation. Or I Heart Huckabees. If I'm going to see a movie, I want to either be fantastically visually blown away, or I want to be laughing so hard I'm crying. Standards. ..

Television:

Gilmore Girls.

Books:

I go through phases of either feverish consumption of books~ or nothing. Sometimes I don't give a shit what other people have to say really, and I just want to dance. I'm currently in one of those phases~ though certain tasty volumes on feng shui have been slipping through, and I've got a novel in my possession that is apparently Really Important. Seriously, though. Let's hop a plane for the coast and get out of town for the weekend. I'd rather do that than read about it.

Heroes:

Alphonse Mucha, Helen Thomas, Saul Williams.
