This is the Grand Fatal document –
We formed in 2005 from the ashes of Seconds Away. Our self funded EP ‘Kick the Star’ came soon after and the track ‘Baker Boy’ quickly found its way onto high rotation on Triple J. We hooked up with Luke Logemann and Set Fire to My Home to produce a follow up EP ‘Chaser/Eraser’ and started touring intensely, in one year alone playing over 173 shows. We have toured and played nationally with bands such as Grinspoon, Shihad, The Hot Snakes, Further, The Spazzy’s, The Cops, Parkway Drive, After the Fall, Cog, Karnivool, Unwritten Law, Gyroscope, Horsell Common, CKY, Hy-Test, BodyJar, Mere Theory, Nursery Crimes, The Hot Lies, Antiskeptic, The Scare, Blacklevel Embassy, The Hard Ons and The Nation Blue at some of this countries biggest venues. We’ve played festivals such as Come Together, Overcranked, Shoreshocked, Cactus Games and Newtown Festival.
In October of 2005 in between tours we recorded and released our debut album ‘Allies’. Tracked in 77 hours at Megaphon studios and Jimmy’s house. Given 4 Stars by Rollingstone and 9/10 by Blunt Magazine it was released with a limited edition disc featuring our live set on Robbie Buck’s ‘Home and Hosed’ Radio show. In the Rollingstone Yearbook 2006/2007 ‘Allies’ rates a mention as one of the top 5 ‘Under the Radar’ releases of the year.
We have not been without our share of challenges and struggles. Jimmy breaking his hand on the eve of a national tour; losing a bass player in the middle of an east coast tour; numerous vehicle and equipment disasters and the usual financial challenges have done little to quell our fire.
We have been featured in Rollingstone, Blunt, Unbelievably Bad, Beat, Long Gone Loser and Pardon Punx magazines as well as being featured cover artists in The Drum Media. We’ve appeared on J-TV, Stained Glass Fishbowl and numerous other community television programs. Our songs have featured on the soundtracks to surf and skate DVD’s and the video of our single ‘Decoder’ has been shown regularly on TVS and Rage.
In August 2007 we head back into the studio with our long term collaborator JonBoyRock [Hard Ons, Regular John, Hy-Test, Further, Nunchukka Superfly] to record tracks for a new album. These songs are a signpost signaling an important time as our band grows and changes.

Grand Fatal - Allies (4 Stars)
Post-hardcore heroes live up to their promise, and then some.
As soon as an album becomes ‘highly anticipated’, it’s going to have trouble meeting expectations. No such problem with this thrilling debut from Sydney independent four-piece Grand Fatal. Following a couple of strong EPs in the 12 months they've been playing under the name, Allies points to a band with the right sound at the right time. More importantly, having developed their catchy, melodic style through increasingly well-received live shows, they know what they're doing with that hard-edged and emotional sound, honing rough edges just enough to make things stand out while leaving enough barbs to embed the songs under your skin. Tight, cathartic and played with passion, urgency, attitude and brains from start to finish, this has without a doubt set the band up for a big future. Luke Anisimoff

Grand Fatal in Blunt Magazine
"With the forward thrust of Drive Like Jehu, the genuine passion of At The Drive-In, the work ethic of Midnight Oil, the melodic dexterity of Superchunk, and a chemistry on par with all of those bands, Grand Fatal are not only a band to watch out for in the future, but one to listen to right now. 9/10".

There are always unsung heroes, and this year's are:
4. Grand Fatal – Allies
After storming onto the scene with a couple of EP's and a spirited live show, Grand Fatal followed through with a debut album that proved not all post-hardcore is spineless self-pity. There's an urgency to Allies that sets Grand Fatal apart from their peers – not too far apart, but just enough to suggest these guys might still have something to say long after their contemporaries are having their tattoos lasered off.
