Articles On School ViolenceI'm always looking to meet new people. I will confess that I am looking for "ms. right" though (I've had enough of "ms wrongs" to last several lifetimes.)
Here's the truth, I'm one of those romantic, nice, faithful, loyal, emotionally available and decent guys that women always say they want, but can't seem to deal with when they find one...I've done a lot of personal growth work to get to be who I am...And for the most part I like myself. I'm not a mindless neaderthral, nor am I a new age wimp...I'm a man in between- I can beat my breast and howl at a hockey game and weep during a moving symphony... or both in the same day.
I've never cheated on anyone I've been involved with, never lied and never intentionally set out to hurt anyone...I don't play games, nor do I like them played on me.
I'm not about making money, or driving the "right" car, or being seen in all the hip trendy places, or stepping on someone to get ahead in the world, or in "keeping up with the Joneses"... I'm about friends, family, and making the world a little better when I leave it.
I'm looking for someone who can carry on a conversation (conversation means two-way btw) about something they are passionate about (Other than "Lost" or "American Idol," that is), and who is equally comfortable with silence.
Someone who likes to try new things at least once, even if it could be stupid.(When I was little my Dad would read about something interesting, or even odd, in the paper- for example a Buffalo Farm in Romeo, and we'd hop in the car and visit it.) I like to do the same thing now, this world is an interesting and sometimes goofy place, when you are open to discovering it. But I don't always want to be the one who takes the lead wih coming up with things to do...
Let me describe my ideal Saturday with that special person...We rise early and drive down to Detroit's Eastern Market and spend the morning picking up interesting and fresh food items and watching the colorful characters who hang out down there. Then we stop for lunch at some unique joint for lunch (perhaps my favorite Bangladesh dive in Hamtramck). While munching on curry you notice in the paper that the "world's larget ball of yarn" (or something just as odd/unique/or out of our usual range of interests)is on display today only. A child-like glee envelopes us, so we head out to see it, afterwards we notice some unique treasure shop or used bookstore, so we spend awhile hunting for treasures. We head home and grab a nap. At 6pm we turn on "A Prairie Home Companion" on NPR, open a bottle of wine and I whip up something wonderful for dinner- maybe a chicken dish from Senegal, or Jerk Pork and fried plantains from Jamaica, or just a simple pot roast. We enjoy the meal while laughing at Garrison's latest monologue. Then we have a choice, we could stay in jeans and go to the gallery opening in town and a pub afterwards, we could get dressed up and go to the theater, or we could stay home and veg with a video...You vote for vegging, I vote for theater. So faced with a dilemma we opt for the only sane way to resolve conflicts, a game of "Rock, Paper Scissors"...
Speaking of games (not the emotional kind, mind you), some of my best "relationship" times, have been with a glass of wine over a game board; Monopoly, Chess, Backgammon, Cribbage, scrabble, are all great rainy or snowy day things to do...and I'm not a "bad" loser either...
I'm looking for someone who is just as comfortable in blue jeans at a blues bar as well as a gown at a symphony.I haven't done the "dating thing" in a couple of years due to the above mentioned parent's situation...So I'm a little shy/awkward about that right now...A friend described me as being a "turtle" right now....poking out of his shell.Although I mention here a lot about "relationships" I also value, and am looking for friends too...
My musical tastes are ecletic (and somewhat obscure to say the least- that comes from having worked in one of the nation's premiere public radio stations- WDET in Detroit). I love live music- everything from the symphony to punk. I am partial though to singer songwriters, such as Leonard Cohen, Richard Shindell, and Mary Black. I also love the smoky piano jazz/blues of Eva Cassidy and Diana Krall.
I am a big fan of Humphrey Bogart films...My favorites are "Casablanca", "To Have and Have Not", "Key Largo" and "The African Queen" (I actually got to touch the real boat). I also like Sci-fi and adventure movies, as well as French New Wave films. But one of my all time "guilty pleasure" movies is "The Replacements" with Keenau Reeves. Also "What the Bleep Do We Know?" & "I Heart Huckabees."
I am a big fan of the West Wing and mourn it's ending. Other than that I tend to watch non-fiction tv, things on the Discovery Channel, TLC, and the Food Network. Supernatural and World Cup Soccer
I gobble up books like some people eat chocolate- Fiction, Non-fiction, the back of cereal boxes (what is "polysorbiateactecolymene", anyway?), it doesn't matter. I am a big fan of vampire novels, contemporary fantasy, Harry Potter, 1920's hardboiled detective novels, really anything...
I would have to say Martin Luther King is one of my heroes...and also my late father.I've been blessed to have had the chance to actually work with or at least spend time with many of my heroes such as Jean Houston, Wayne Dyer, Robert Bly, Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra and Daphne Rose Kingma- all of them pioneers on the forefront of the Human Potential Movement, and great inspiration to my own work.
