I am a serious woman. An amusing individual. A complex being. I like cartoons and documentaries. I like asparagus and chocolate; though not necessarily so much together. I like belly laughs, real music and good books. I like more than I don't. I love truth. I love poetry. I love reading poetry, listening to poetry, writing poetry, changing lives with poetry.
I am an Artist-In-Residence for Theatre Of Hearts/Youth First, a Los Angeles, CA based non-profit corporation whose vision is to promote understanding between people through cultural and artistic forums, and empower local communities through education in the arts. My focus as an Artist-In-Residence is to provide youth with a creative outlet (via poetry), to mentor and to renew in them, a sense of hope.
I have been called a dreamer; I like the word visionary better.
I am the daughter of the people of the sun; the nappy-headed Soul Sistah who loves her momma and her man and prays for humanity.
I am a wisdom seeker; committed to the furthering of education, arts, culture, spirit and love.
I am one of the Leimert Park Poets featured on "Spreading Love-N-Spoken Words", Volume 1, Compliation. A project produced by Grammy Award winning producer, Victor "X-Man" Taylor, and John Myers; featured works include "Who I Be" and "Story #767,000 from 10 Million Stories In An Inner City."
Author of "Sacred Songs", "heat", "Rebel Music: Ditty of the Determined Dreadlocked Daughter of a Drummer and a Dreamer in the Diaspora", "stereotypical sambos and bootie calls", "story tellin' poetry", "no! you cannot have my womb!", "in celebration of our mothers", and "Living in Loving Color", I am currently working on a novel (for the past eight years!), and collecting 10 million stories.body"
