About Me

If you found this site, that means one thing…, you are a film freak. One whose friends consider being a film snob. You are one whom isn’t easily wowed by cheesy jokes, a helicopter and a pair of boobs. You are the kind of person who is always looking for that next film that boggles your eyes and jars your brains for days; maybe even a lifetime after the DVD player has been turned off. You are one of those people who are tired of what the mainstream gives you to watch and you want something that will shred your skull. The good news is that you are just like us. You have found yourself a new home to find films you salivate for with more ease than ever before. Cinephelia.com was founded by guys just like yourself that have spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars watching, searching and collecting films from around the globe.Cinephelia.com was started like this, a few years ago a co-worker (Hendermonster) of mine handed me three films…”Ichi The Killer”, “Funny Games” and “Irreversible”. At that point in my life I was into film, but everything seemed to have lost its edge. To say I was floored by the 3 titles would be an understatement. From there of course I did what any film maniac would do, I scoured for as many Miike, Haneke and Noe movies as I could get my paws on. During that search many other directors and films were discovered and I realized that true, psychological, daring, horrifying and passionate cinema was being made. All over the globe, directors were bringing hard edge cinema back to life. Around Christmas time in 2003 I wanted to get Hendermonster something cool for his gift and I sought out Noe’s “The Butcher”. As some of you may know, finding that film with English subs is damn near impossible. What I did find however was the English subtitle file. I had the subs and I figured that someone else out there would have the rest of the puzzle. I posted my request on IMDB, even though I still don’t have the custom copy of “The Butcher”, I did manage to make a very inspiring friend who would turn out to be an even bigger film freak then myself.Jason (Moss) and I immediately started discussing films from drams to docos, from horror to surreal masterpieces. For the next couple of years our workdays consisted of countless emails consisting of links to films, film suggestions, and hell pretty much anything pertaining to helping us feed our hunger. After realizing how hard it was to find information on the kind of films we love in one location on the web, we decided that a site that tailored to Cinephiles was severely needed. In our head, we wanted to develop a site without the silly Hollywood gossip and ads. Moss’ idea was for us to focus our energy and nerd knowledge into building our own digital film shrine. Cinephila.com was born. (The original name was www.weliveforsnuff.com, good name…but in reality we didn’t think the FBI would get the joke.)We know this site is going to take a lot of work before we get to where we want to go, but we do hope to connect with thousands of other Cinephiles like ourselves. We are sure that we will. We not only want to deliver hard to find reviews and information on upcoming films that may slide under the radar, but offer a few more services. Cinephelia.com will also include a message board where you can rave on movies, bash on movies, or even hook up with someone who knows where to find that gem you are looking for. The things that we thought would help our users build that immaculate collection. As an added feature Cinephelia.com will also be offering a place for Indy film makers to host their short films. We will be hosting up to 8 movies a month that our visitors will be able to stream. By doing a small amount we can ensure that the film will be seen and maybe even delivered to the right eye. After a year has past our goal is to have our users vote on their 10 favorite shorts and distribute those on a professionally packaged DVD. From there we then hope to get into feature length film distribution as well for a bi-monthly movie clubs that will please our user’s criteria. We want to be a part of the new shift in cinema where less equals more. Cinephelia.com will also offer monthly interviews and check-ins from some of the best Indy film distributors and on-line stores out there today. We would like for a site to be a central repository for any resource we feel would assist our users.
