I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I recently finished school where I was studying to be a high roller in the music industry... I have lofty dreams and ambitions, what can I say, I'm a gemini. I am currently with the amazing people at Sony/ATV and am excited to see where that leads and grateful for the opportunity to work with my mentor.
I've been a DJ for over a decade, dabbled in concert and club promotion, and want to get back into that on a more ongoing rate. I lost many years to retail because I'm a sucker for cool fashion, but I wouldn't have met so many amazing people (and have such a ridiculous wardrobe) if I hadn't, so I am grateful for my time with Trivium.
I moved to Toronto in 2006 and am digging it - I love being spoiled for choice when it comes to shows and club nights, though I do miss having to do my own thing sometimes.
I've lived in Moose Jaw, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa and now Toronto (in that order somewhat) and love being a gypsy. I love to travel, and need to do much, much more of it in future.
I'm a vegetarian, love my 2 cats Arthur and Bob, and have a slight clothing addiction (but no one's perfect.) I also have feet. Big ones.

My Interests

Music. Fashion. Poetry. Writing. Psychology, specifically the study of music and cognition. Travel. Concerts. Business. Entertainment Law. Copyright and IP issues. Dirty, sexy, rock 'n' roll.

I'd like to meet:

Cool people with a good sense of the ha-ha, who are up for anything, and are kind, honest and intelligent individuals.

Music:

Goth/Rock/Horrorbilly/Psychobilly/Metal/Punk/Outlaw music/Dark Ambient/Bleepy glitch music/EBM/Industrial/Noise/IDM....anything dark, interesting, or just plain silly fun. Some bands I love: Holoscene, Einsturzende Neubauten, Snog, Urusai, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Swans, Diamanda Galas, VNV Nation, Skinny Puppy, Rotersand, The Cramps, Behind the Scenes, HIM, Mad Sin, The Creepshow, Sex Gang Children, Massive Attack, Meteors, Sisters, Fields of the Nephilim, Lords of Acid, Patsy Cline, PJ Harvey, Bowie, the Brains, the Hellbillys, Alice Cooper, PWEI, Nekromantix, Muse, Cocteau Twins, Cure, Carcass, the Gutter Demons, IAMX, Goldfrapp, Ladytron, Misfits, Lene Lovich, Lamb of God, the Knife, Bjork, Coil, Lustmord, Winterkalte, NIN, Front 242, Nick Cave, Nina Hagen, Siouxsie/Creatures, Slayer, Edith Piaf, Curve, Amy Winehouse, haujobb, Danny Elfman, Joy Division, Joan Jett, This Mortal Coil, the Birthday Massacre, Covenant, Dmitri Shostakovich, Opeth, Suicidal Tendencies, The Clash, Social Distortion, Concrete Blonde, Elliott Smith, Tiger Army, Mike Patton inc., New Model Army, Hank Williams III, The Damned, Dead Can Dance, Johnny Cash, Nina Simone, Tool, Prince, Motorhead, Ramones, Outkast, The Tiger Lillies... to name a few.

Movies:

True Romance, Nightmare Before Xmas, Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!, Shaun of the Dead, Memento, Wild At Heart, Heathers, High Fidelity, Lost in Translation, Doom Generation, Donnie Darko, Boogie Nights, American Beauty, the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Bladerunner, Brazil, the City of Lost Children, Delicatessen... dark comedies, lush cinematography, bloody and gorey b-movies (especially zombie ones) and I am a sucker for a good romantic comedy. I'll admit it.

Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!  -  Add to Friends!

Television:

I am a sucker for any sort of 'reality' competitions: ANTM, Search for the next Pussycat Doll, Project Runway/Catwalk, Rockstar (Supernova and INXS), but I draw the line at the 'Idol' series. I also love Miami Ink and wish Garver would move to Toronto and be my love slave.

Books:

I'm a big Neil Gaiman fan, love Warren Ellis and his Transmetropolitan series, and have a soft spot for Terry Pratchett. I thought Susannah Clarke's novel Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell was an excellent read, and am looking for something similar I can lose myself in. I grew up on horror, Clive Barker being my favourite, and still love reading it, though I am in need of a good horror author recommendation (let me know!)Books on philosophy, poetry, psychology, globalization and cultural issues, biographies on artists, musicians, and people living cool lives, and anything else interesting I can get my hands on.Current or recent reads: - The Long Tail (Chris Anderson) - This Is Your Brain On Music (Daniel Levitin) - The Tipping Point (Malcolm Gladwell) - Freakonomics (Steven Levitt) - Rebel Musics (Daniel Fischlin, Ed.) - The DaVinci Code (Dan Brown) - White Line Fever (Lemmy Kilmister)

Heroes:

My family, especially my mum.
