About Me
Hello and welcome to my page!
My name is Greg Johnston, and I'm a songwriter/producer/musician located in Toronto, ON. You may recognize my work that has been featured on several artists' albums, or possibly you've heard my compositions featured on TV. In case you haven't, I'll give you a brief rundown of my resume.
Some of my songs have been covered by some very well respected musicians. Nick Lachey recorded "Everywhere But Here" for his 2006 album “WHAT'S LEFT OF ME†(Jive) and I co-wrote the first single, "Bomb Handsâ€, with Universal Canada's rock band Social Code. Other features include Australian Dean Geyer (SonyBMG) who recorded my song “She Comes In Waves†as well as Portuguese artist Pedro Madeira who also chose to record this song for his upcoming release. AC radio favourite Amy Sky (EMI) recorded a holiday song (“Let It Shineâ€) for her recent album and "Do You Dance" on her "Best Of" album (EMI) that stayed on AC’s Top 20 for several weeks. I've co-written with Kalan Porter (SonyBMG) for his sophomore album resulting in “Hurray†and with Canadian Idol’s recent winner, Brian Melo (SonyBMG), securing “Summertime†on his debut, just released, album.
I have also participate now in three seasons of the CTV smash hit INSTANT STAR. The second season featured three (3) songs in the series and on the subsequent album. In the third season, five (5) of my songs were included, and I had a chance to produce the songs as well including one that I didn't co-write. In the upcoming season, I will have two (2) more songs included in the show. The series can be watched on The N Network in the USA and can be caught in 120 countries.
In addition to the songwriting mentioned above, I have been lucky enough to have been able to do some scoring for Film and TV. Most recently I finished a documentary on the Queen Mary II for The Discovery Network. I have also worked on an independent documentary about Palestinian children suicide bombers entitled “Making of A Martyr†and a CBC one hour production on the child marketing business, “How The Kids Took Over.â€
I have had the pleasure of collaborating with many talented songwriters and some of my credits have included work with the following: Nick Lachey, Ron Sexsmith, Rob Wells, Emm Gryner, Christopher Ward, Simon Wilcox, Lindy Robbins, Scott Jacoby, Luke McMaster, Jeremy Fisher, Julie Crochitiere, Andy Stochansky, Simon Rettie, Kyle Riabko, Marc Jordan, Amy Sky, Olivia Newton-John, Rex Goudie, Andrea Wasse Andrew Williams, Erica Driscoll, Tom Leonard, Lindsay Robins, Shelley Peiken, Jeen O'Brien, Damhnait Doyle, Vincent Degiorgio, Alexz Johnson, Ryan Malcolm, Mia Kulba, Xandy Barry and Mark Rae.
