About Me

Irish born Una Palliser lives in London working as a violist, violinist and vocalist. Having won a scholarship in 1999 to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, she was awarded the Wolfson Trust award by the Academy, a Royal Philharmonia Martin Musical Scholarship Award and was a string finalist in the RTE Millennium Musician of the Future Competition before graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in Performance in 2003.As a string player, Una has worked and toured with Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Sir Colin Davies, Thomas Ades, Avo Part, Maxim Vengerov and Vladimir Ashkenazy, recorded for BBC Radio 1, Radio 3, Radio4, Lyric FM, Xfm, Hugh Cornwell (Stranglers), Shapeshifters (Positiva records/EMI), All Angels (Universal Records), Nicky Spence (Universal), Phixx, the Smirnoff campaign and performed live at Wembley Stadium, on BBC1 Top of the Pops, Jools Holland, Jonathan Ross, MTV Europe, Culture Show, Transmission, Channel 4s T4 Special, Smash Hits Awards, Record of the Year and The National Music Awards. She has also performed live with Omara Portuondo (Bueno Vista Social Club), Tom Baxter (Sony), Corey Taylor (Stonesour/Slipknot), Alfie Boe, Holly Palmer (Universal Records), Geri Haliwell, Heatwave, Heather Small (M-People) and Errol Brown (Hot Chocolate) and appeared with P Diddy, Josh Groban and Gareth Gates (19/BMG).This year Una has been touring US, Europe and UK as solo violist/electric violinist in PATRICK WOLF's (Polydor/Universal) band including support to ARCADE FIRE and AMY WINEHOUSE, a performance on US TV show Conan O Brien and a number of headline shows. Una has also completed two European tours as part of GNARLS BARKLEY's band with her electric string quartet SIREN including performances at Wireless (London, Leeds), Hurricane (Germany), Montreux Jazz (Switzerland) and Cactus (Belguim) festivals and many TV performances including the record 9 weeks in a row with their no1 hit 'Crazy'. Her playing also features on the bonus edition of their record 'St Elsewhere'. SIREN have also performed their own show as headline act for the Sheiks in Dubai and throughout Germany and the UK. Una also performed as guest violinist and singer with BBC Radio 3 World Music Award winners TERRAFOLK and the Slovenian Symbolic Orchestra, having performed with them at the Queen Elizabeth Hall London earlier in the year.Last year she also performed the premiere of CSL Parker's Eileen Aroon as a member of the CASTALIA String Quartet for whom the piece was written and completed an Irish/UK tour with them in October. Una spent August at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she successfully produced the off-Broadway comedy musical I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' with Adam Dawson and their production company PERFECT STAGE PRODUCTIONS, winning rave reviews from the Edinburgh critics. She also performed as violinist in the show, having also featured in the Irish production in St Andrew's Lane Theatre, Dublin and Kings Head Theatre, London. Una also regularly plays in the West End production of Lord of the Rings.As a singer, Una featured as the lead and backing vocalist on theme tune to I TV1 prime time Saturday entertainment show Love on a Saturday Night presented by Davina McCall. She was the solo vocalist on the soundtrack to short film Eva (Slate Films), recent voted Best Foreign Film at Long Island Film Festival NYC and screened at the National Film Theatre London and the Edinburgh Film Festival. Una has worked as a session vocalist for various London based producers including Rose and Foster (S Club 7, Kylie), Richard Taylor (Westlife) and Christian Henson (BBC). She has recently been working as singer and songwriter with Slovenian producer Greggor.In 2003/4 Una completed a world tour as vocalist and violist in stand-up comedy string quartet Graffiti Classics, travelling to over 20 countries including sell-out performances at the Edinburgh Festival and National Concert Hall Dublin and promotion of their Naxos CD in Norway.Una has written string arrangements for a number of artists and bands including Holly Palmer (Universal Records), Blayz, Graffiti Classics, Siren and an orchestral score for Slovenian Symbolic Orchestra.Below - Una Playing Horn Violin on Channel 4 Transmission with Patrick Wolf Below - Una playing live with Patrick Wolf Below- with Gnarls Barkley on Top of the Pops
