To be about the music. No hair cuts. No 80s bands t-shirts. Just music and pushing the boundaries. As mission statements go it’s a pretty powerful one from Nottingham’s El Cielo.Translated as ‘The Heavens’, they describe themselves as an experimental/progressive/metal band, and mix crushing heaviness with a melodic sensibility.Formed 5 years ago, the band rode line-up changes while gradually finding their unique and creative sound. The established line-up is now Mike Hayward (Vocals), David Dewar (Guitars), Nick Crowe (Bass), and Jim Farey (Drums). With influences ranging from Tool, Genesis, Meshuggah, Fleetwood Mac and Family Guy, their intricate, thoughtful arrangements and distinctive time signatures contribute to an expansive, heavy sound.Although influences are not hidden, the bands open song-writing process allows each members diverse and individual talents to shine through, from Mike’s melodic, emotive vocals, David’s ominous, crawling riffs, and Nick’s smooth, tight bass lines. Their potent sound is completed by Jim’s driving, off-kilter drum style.El Cielo stick to their mission statement, shattering genres as they jump from metal, to heavy rock to math-rock with ease, ignoring the traditional verse/chorus structure in favour of flowing, precise music and distinctive breakdowns.Their second E.P. “A Crimson Swept Field†will be released in late March/early April, and it’s a clear progression from their earlier work, especially on their newest track “Grinding The Cornâ€.El Cielo are:Mike Hayward – VocalsJim Farey – DrumsDavid Dewar – GuitarsNick Crowe – BassWebsite: www.elcielo-band.comMySpace: www.myspace.com/elcielobandE-Mail: [email protected]: David - 07790906859/ Jim - 07904584443The band intend to release their e.p " a crimson swept field " at the end of March/start of April and it will include the 4 tracks, "icon", "blind conviction" "grinding the corn" and "murder the crow", these songs can be heard exclusively here on myspace.
