About Me

BIOGRAPHY:
Tyrrell went from guitar prodigy to recording studio whiz-kid when he moved to London at the height of the dance music explosion in the late eighties / early nineties where he then
blah blah blah bloody blah
Don't you hate it when you go to someone's page and their biography is written in the third person? Like they're so famous they actually hired a professional writer to do it - yeah, right!!! In yer dreams mate! This is me keeping it real for a change so I'm switching to the first person.
In a nutshell, I am a multi-instrumentalist / songwriter / producer / DJ who records under the name Tyrrell but I'm also known for my collaborations with other producers, the most popular of which are Interfearence and HOOKED.

MY BACKGROUND:
After succeeding in becoming one of the youngest, fastest and most pretentious guitarists ever accepted into the jazz program at Humber College in Toronto, Canada, I became restless and moved to London, UK where my new appreciation for more simple, catchy, repetitive music with mass appeal would land me in a job making tea in one of London's most cutting edge, underground (literally) dance music recording studios. As I was still young and hungry, graduating from teaboy to engineer then producer happened very quickly as I was thrown into sessions with Blue Pearl, The Orb, Youth, Steve Hillage & System 7, Richie Rich, A Guy Called Gerald, Baby Ford and the Stereo MCs. I recorded and mixed PM Dawn's first two albums (including 'Set Adrift On Memory Bliss') and co-produced Urban Species 'Listen'. For the rest of the nineties I worked with/for a host of other artists from: Marxman to Roni Size as well as with my then girlfriend, singer/songwriter Harri Lake with whom I wrote and recorded practically 4 albums worth of songs. By 1999 I was releasing music as an artist myself under the name Interfearence (see below) and then HOOKED (see below) as well as my own psuedonym, Tyrrell.

Back 2 The Groove EP ('Heavy' included on Ministry Of Sound's 'Clubber's Guide 2005')
'NastyDirtySexMusic' HOOKED remix
And not forgetting our single with SR2:
'Hear What I Say'
INTERFEARENCE:
Interfearence are/were Paul Martin (ex Talkin' Loud A&R supremo) and myself; we made two albums (Interfearence, ffrr 1999 and Take That Train, Ubiquity 2001) which received much critical acclaim and almost no sales. Oh well, it's better to be cool and unknown than a famous sell-out, isn't it? Isn't it?! Perhaps not then. Anyway, it was always about the music and I stand by it. Our single 'All Day' was included on the 'Human Traffic' soundtrack and can be heard in the background of the film during the scene in the kitchen at the after party when they're talking about Yoda and Darth Vader. Classic. We were also responsible for the theme song and background music for the TV show CD:UK which ran for over 7 years every Saturday morning on ITV in the UK. Believe it or not, I am the voice that whispered 'C...D...U...K...'. Not so 'classic'. In addition to the two albums, we were asked to remix many varied artists:
Gotan Project 'La Cruz Del Sur'
Plantlife 'When She Smiles She Lights The Sky'
Sneaker Pimps 'Low Five'
CJ Bolland 'It Ain't Gonna Be Me'
Brand New Heavies 'You Are The Universe'
INXS 'Elegantly Wasted'
Akasha 'Mescalin'
Merz 'Lovely Daughter'
Galliano 'Ease Your Mind'
AS FAR AS I CAN RECALL...
Over the years, as a session player (mostly guitar but also bass, sitar, vocal, keyboard, mandolin, percussion, flute, and even kazoo), an engineer (from programming Fairlights to SSL mixing), and as a producer, I have worked with or for:
Richie Rich (remixes for Gee Street): Peter Lorimer (how ya doin' buddy?!): A Guy Called Gerald: Baby Ford: David Bowie (programming and engineering for Dave Barratt's remix of 'Fame'): Youth (soooo many late nights...): Art Of Noise (programming on remix by Youth): Blue Pearl ('Take Me Dancing Naked In The Rain' + album): David Gilmore & Rick Wright (did overdubs for Blue Pearl)(THAT was an honour): George Michael (did a session for Peter Lorimer): Zoe (programming for Youth on 'Sunshine On A Rainy Day'): Steve Hillage and System 7: Outlaw Posse: Stereo MCs (mostly as an engineer on their remixes under the name 'Ultimatum'): PM Dawn (recorded and mixed their first two albums)(soooo many sample clearance forms...): Simply Red (remix with PM Dawn): Boy George (did a vocal for PM Dawn): Cathy Dennis (did a vocal for PM Dawn + programmed and engineered a track at her place): Billy Mackenzie (what a voice): Carl Marsh (and Dave Allen also from Shriekback - what a band!): Nina Hagen (pulled her wig off at a party she was so happy with my remix of 'Pillow Talk'): Anabella Lwin (formerly of Bow Wow Wow): Tim Finn (brother of Neil Finn of Crowded House): Lindsey Buckingham: Jane Siberry: Khaled (an amazing French Algerian singer): Etienne Dao (France's answer to Elvis): Gilles Peterson: Marxman: Incognito: Roni Size (played guitar on 'New Forms'): Lily Allen (I recorded some demos with her before her album 'Alright, Still'): I'll add more as I remember them...
